The rape scene from This Is England, Channel 4 series not the movie, was plenty more brutal and involving.
One of the most disturbing things I have seen on broadcast Telly. Still makes me feel ill thinking about it.The Sansa scene was unpleasant, but she knew what she was getting into. She chose to be there despite repeated warnings.

Yeah when I heard she was going to be in an X-Men movie it did occur to me how happy she must be to be doing something other than moving sullenly from one horror to the next while blubbing.
TBH she could be written out of the entire plot so far and I doubt it would make a difference. She only seems to exist because in GRRM's day you couldn't play The Sims and wall a character in to make them miserable. It gets boring quickly.

I can't see how it's any more rape than any other 'bedding' in GoT. Not every wife is excited about their new husband, indeed most are by arrangement. But Sansa would have known clearly it was going to happen. The noises weren't that horrific to be honest ... it was her first time - it was always going to be a touch sore wasn't it?

It might have been rough, and horrible and degrading, but she consented ultimately?
Consent because you're petrified for your own safety is not consent. That scene depicted rape. Not that I have an issue with that but let's not pretend it wasn't, even if it's all she could have reasonably have expected to happen. Calza said:

That's what I was thinking. The bedding ceremony is something that is going to happen on the wedding night. It was unusual that Sansa married someone who has an unusual level of sensitivity (Tyrion) for the culture as to not go through with it.BJG1 said:

If there is such a hoo-ha online about this, what was there about Theon (sp?) having one or two problems with Ramsey?!?!
Just wondering if there are double standards...
Oh, and I was sure he (Theon) would either (1) be made to join in (2) kill Ramsey for it and try to escape with Sansa
I've said it before, but there's more than 'just' rape at play here.Just wondering if there are double standards...

When the scene was first shown the immediate "hoo-ha" was caused by diehard book fans, "it's different in the book" they all cried, mostly they were pissed off than Sansa (who I believe is more fierce in the book, much like her sister) has been reduced to a quivering maiden whose only function in the TV series is to go from ahole to ahole in various states of distress - 'Sansa' the character is better than that.
BUT, since than many more people have read these complaints, missed the part about the book and it's become "OMG a young women has been shagged on TV and she didn't seem to enjoy it" by the standards of GoT it's far from the worst thing to happen to someone.
For example Claire McCaskill
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/05/19/politics/claire-...
Seemingly didn't mind the slavery, the mutilation, the endless killing, the children thrown from windows, the prostitution, the guy having his head melted with gold.... or indeed the rape in season 1.
Well until, it gained some traction online and she could grab a few column inches from it.

Again, I'll ask - was there this much furore when Theon's man sausage was chopped off and Ramsey ate a sausage in front of him.
NoAnd this is not the 1st rape in GoT
It's been done far FAR nicer on TV than in the book (where it wasn't even Sansa, it was a fake Arya & Theon knew her to be fake).
She was a virgin so it was going to hurt. Ramsey likes pain, she knew this & knew it was going to hurt!
It's silly PC people making a molehill into a mountain

I thought the Sansa/Ramsey scene was no worse than the Dany/Khal Drogo wedding night.
now that is a very fair point - you could even argue that Dani's depiction was worse since she came to love her rapist....Khal, even though he was rough, wasn't cruel or sadistic (having his bloodriders watch, although actually in the book it's normal, sexual activity is performed infront of the tribe...different culture). Drogo was actually a caring man, Ramsay isn't. There is quite a possibility that things may get a lot worse for Sansa.
Last year there was whinging from the usual quarters over the Craster's Keep rape scene and the Jaime/Cersei crypt sex scene.

I really do have my fingers crossed that Sansa gets killed off soon as she really is the most boring/pointless character in any TV series. Even worse than Chloe from 24.
Thats harsh! She isnt that boring! It is annoying that she has developed differently as the book character becomes much more interesting. I do hope they bring this in to the TV show at some point though. I find Dany the EMO Queen far more annoying. All she does is whinge and moan GofT Musical people!
