I have already posted a couple of pictures in the 'show off your bike thread' however ive only had the new ride for about a week or so and i've got a sneaky suspicion that this may get expensive.
Thought I would share a couple of pictures of some recent purchases...
Starting with the bike. (which is the one i've posted already)
The pedals..
Well I needed something to go with the pedals (at this point I think it would have been best if the Mrs left the shop)
then I got a bit carried away.............
Thats about it at the moment... apart from some shorts and base layers.. Oh and some gloves however i've not got pictures of those..
Anyone got any good ideas about what I need next.. Well not strictly need but you know what I mean...

When I started riding again I thought that the bike was the expensive bit - wrong!
I have not stopped spending, in fact in the past 18 months I have spent 2k on bikes (hardtail, full suser and a road bike), about £450 on clothing (MTB and Road), about £350 on lights, £150 on 3 x sets of pedals, plus a good few hundred quid on bike upgrades, plus food supplements etc!........thing is, when you only buy a couple of bits a month it does not seem to bad - its only when you look back over a years spending you realise how much money you spent.
Best not to look too closely at your spending, also hide the bank statements and credit card bills from the missus!
Ah, also just remembered the Edge 500 last month and the Northwave Bib shorts ordered on Friday. . . .

Those wheels could be upgraded to a lighter, stronger model with UST rims and wheels. And those hubs - I bet they are not Pro II's?. Those brakes {big suck of teeth] Hope brakes with floating rotors and some nice organic pads, lighter, better modulation and less fade...

You dont have XTR shifters?? OMG how will you change gear without them?? - KMC chain? Hope ceramic BB?
Have you got the new XAR lid and some "livestrong" oakleys? A buff (merino wool) to go under your lid? Sealskin socks to keep your feet comfy? Have you got a camelbac to keep everything in? or if you want to be uber cool a wingnut? Have you got your suunto with its altimeter to trak ascents? What no ceramic jockey wheels? I bet your cycling shorts are not made by Assos?
And worst of all - that bike is not covered in mud, scratches and seems to be missing at least one worrying dent.

Start putting in some decent distance on a bike and I suspect it's not much, if any cheaper than driving. I ride >250kms a week. The amount of food I get through is obscene. I've been lucky not to come off over winter. My colleague fell off doing in a pedal, a shifter, a jacket, jersey, baselayer, set of waterproof trousers, set of trousers, and a helmet. Reckons he did £350. I don't want to think about how much maintenance I've had to do over the winter. Still, I got a rim gauge yesterday, and there's still plenty of life left in my wheels, despite them having done 16,000km.

I'm not far behind you on mileage (~200km per week) but I'd say the exact opposite. Maintenance required this winter? Lubrication and gear adjustment. Expensive clothing? Through the winter I just wear normal clothes, under a pair of waterproofs if it's raining. Food? Yes I eat a little bit more, but calories are easy enough to find.
It's easy for it to get expensive if you want it to, but it doesn't have to.

I'll get up the shop as soon as I can. I'm a little busy at the moment applying for various credit cards to pay for it all...
My missus actually went into the shop and bought my full susser for me! We passed the shop on Saturday and I had a quick test ride - drooled over it then put it back in the window while I went off to 'think' about my business case for buying it!
She passed the shop the following Tuesday and the price had dropped from £1200 to £850 in the end of 2010 stock sale. She popped inside - bought it, gave me a call and told me to pick it up on the way home from work! Cost me a Radley handbag in return but a fair deal me thinks!!

It's easy for it to get expensive if you want it to, but it doesn't have to.
Perhaps I was being modest. Did over 1300km in Feb, this month will be near 1500km. I suspect I could find cheaper calories, but I don't want to. I'm averaging 75km a day this week. Fair enough, you are doing quite a bit more than me 75km is nearly double the mileage I do most days but I think you are very much the exception rather than the rule. I'm doing about 37km a day at the moment which I'd expect to be more than most people, and it's not a problem in civvies. The Lycra gets saved for when I go for a fun ride and push myself.Good luck with your maintenance strategy.
As for the maintenance? I clean, inspect and adjust regularly but it hasn't need anything else yet. Once the weather has turned for the better I'll do a more thorough strip down and rebuild ready for the summer, but I don't expect much to be needed in parts, just a little time and effort.
