After an injury and subsequent surgery in October last year, it kept me off the bike all winter - so to cheer myself up I rebuilt my CAAD9 and this is the result, hope you like.

Build requirements were: reliable, easy to work on (this was the first full build I have attempted myself) , nothing stupidly light or stupidly expensive

My dog Lily took a keen interest in the stick that was holding the bike up, it fell over twice whilst setting up whistle

The 3T Funda Pro fork doesn't quite match the pearl white of the frame but it's not far off and you can only really tell in dull light. I have found the paint code for the frame and may get it resprayed to match at some point

After the all clear from my GP last week, I put in some hours on the trainer to fine tune everything and took the bike out for a 33 mile shakedown yesterday and I'm really pleased with how it turned out, ride is fantastic and I can see me keeping this bike for a long time now. It goes like a scalded cat even though my legs aren't up to much yet.

Couple of minor jobs left to do: swap one of the 5mm spacers to above the stem, rotate the bars forwards a little, tidy up cable housing as I cut conservatively leaving a fair amount spare. I may also route the gear cables round behind the bars next time the tape gets rewrapped as I think the gear shifts will be marginally improved. I am also not totally convinced by the sturdiness of the KCNC ti skewers - the cam doesn't really move inwards very far so I may err on the side of caution and go back to using the Mavic ti ones that were supplied with the wheels. It will add weight yes, but give me more peace of mind.

I came really close to buying SRAM Force instead of Ultegra but after trying it on a test ride from my LBS I just didn't get on with it. Chorus also got a quick look in but I discounted it pretty quickly as I would have to re-tool (expensive) and would have been secretly yearning for Record / SR instead, plus I gather it's also a lot trickier to maintain whereas I have a lot of experience with Shimano already

Future upgrades? Hmm well some deep carbon wheels would be nice, Reynolds Assault or Zipp 303's perhaps? Will consider that maybe later this summer when I have put a shed load more miles on it biggrin

Couple of extra shots on Flickr. Please excuse my uncut grass hehe

Very, very nice. I'm a big fan of Cannondales and yours looks fantastic. Do you mind telling me how tall you are. I'm riding a much older (and heavier and more uncomfortable, etc.) CAAD2, I still love it, it fits me perfectly.

Thank you sir. I'm a shortarse at 172cm with 74cm inseam. The frame is a 52cm, I wanted a 54cm but it would have placed my saddle literally an inch from the top tube = not cool these days. My legs would have preferred a 50cm, however the toe overlap would have been terrible. 52 was sort of a compromise, I still get a little toe overlap but it's fine as long as I remember at low speed smile

Those de-stickered wheels look really nice, not seen that before with Kryriums.

Cheers. The wheel stickers had too much red and yellow that didn't match any of the other red on the bike so it was 20 mins work with a fingernail to lift the edges and then really carefully peel back to try and stop any residue remaining. Quick wipe round with hot water / fairy liquid and nothing remains smile

Thank you

Back-of-a-fag-packet maths puts the total at £2200

Well it will when I get round to selling my 105 5600 groupset that I took off the bike, it stands me at £2404 right now. I have kept all the other original parts which I could sell to reclaim some costs but will just end up stockpiling as spares.

If I had bought all parts brand new it would have cost me £3200+ The fork came off a NOS 2008 Cervelo R3 and had never been fitted or cut. The wheels came from a brand new high range Specialized and the guy didn't want them so I picked them up for a song.

Took me from November until last week to fully complete the build, took ages to wait for the forks to come up on ebay.
