So I posted one photo in the show us your model thread with the promise of more.

Unfortunately I can't seem to find the early ones, I'm sure i did have some but might have wiped the memory card by mistake. So only have ones halfway through construction phase of the build. I have a few others of the finished article too. Enjoy:

This was the first time I ever used an airbrush and to be honest i really struggled with it. It just seemed like loads more hassle than my aerosols that i used before. Anyway, the finish turned out ok, considering i didnt have a freakin clue what i was doing!
I was trying to spray standard tamiya acryllics watered down a bit with tamiya thinners. So the X-7 is a bit dark IMO.

Here is the D'Antin GP4 with the factory bike. Which one seems the best colour?

Sorry about all the pics!

Please don't apologise for ALL the pics

Its what we like smile

Which red is closest to what you wanted? Airbrushes are NOT the "be all and end all" no matter what you are told.

Sometimes using the tools you are used to makes for a better model. Which doesn't take away the benefits you can find from the airbrush as you become skilled in its use.

I haven't built or worked on a bike since 1965 (real ones eek ) but find it fascinating to see how they look when being built, the technology is amazing these days

I like the build you have shown and the doubling up for the other one

nice work thanks for sharing it with us

Intricate are'nt they...

cheers

In my experience, an airbrush will give a much finer, thinner finish than a spray can. Yes, it's much more hassle, but almost every time I've used a can out of laziness, I've regretted it.

Having said that, your bikes looks very very good irrespective of how you painted them.

Personally, I think the the dark red is the nicer looking, but the lighter red is probably more realistic. I would guess that it would be difficult to tell if either were right or wrong unless they were in front of the real bike under the same lighting conditons.
