As requested, a "idiots guide" to sleeving your carbon cans if you don`t know what i`m on about read this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=86094&f=5&h=0
May i add at this stage that this is what i did step by step and i cannot take any responsibily for any "erm mistakes"

TOOLS REQUIRED:-
13mm Socket, spanner, wrench,Malet or hammer, large block of wood( i used a bit of 12" 4x4 from a fence post )

PARTS REQUIRED:-

2X Pieces of 400mm stainless(see thread for full details)
1X Piece of 600mm stainless (optional you could use something else to drive in the sleeves)
A can of WD40
Grease( i used a spray type)
A extra pair of hands would be benefictual

RIGHT LETS DO IT!

1) Spray the exhaust can clamp bolts and surrounding area i.e where exhaust meets can with WD40, and leave for 1/2 an hour or so.

2)Undo and remove the exhaust clamp bolts with the 13mm tools ( i took the opportunity to clean them up slightly when they are off)

3) Remove both Carbon cans by twisting and turning as you pull them, get as far as you can under the car to get a decent grip. ( i again took the opportunity to clean up the end of the exhausts, not the cans they are cleaned up after the fitting of the sleeves)
You will be surprised how light the cans are.

4) Prepare a work area to "sleeve" the cans.( i did it on my front lawn) with a old piece of carpet ideal and soft for when you have to drive down the sleeves.

5) Hold up both cans to the light to make sure there are no bits of weld in the bore of the cans (i learnt this the hard way) this will stop the sleeve from going fully home.

6) Get your assistant to hold your can( stop sniggering at the back ) with the inlet facing UPWARDS take your piece of stainless spray with grease and insert into the orrifice, place the wood on the tubing and gently start tapping down the stainless into the can, may i add at this stage that i had a fair bit of resistance so this may be the classic case of "they all do that sir" carry on tapping until the tube is flush with top of the inlet part of the can,now use the 600mm piece of stainless tubing or
something simular and place this on top of the piece which is now flush with the inlet part of the can and continue to tap down the tubing into the can, keep going until the the "silencing perforations" are COMPLETLY COVERED if you now turn the can upside down you can see the tubing about 2/3" inside the can.

7) Repeat the procedure for the other can.

8) Clean both cans and refit onto the exhausts, using a bit of grease if required.

9) Test drive car, when warm get to 2700/3000rpm in second and trail the throttle enjoy!!

10) Quickly check the tightness of the exhaust clamps when you get back.

Well there we go the cheapest mod you will ever do, it cost me a Fiver, as you read this i tonight ordered a can of spray paint and i intend to colour code my cans i will post some photos when i have done this, you will get owners posting on here about the CCC`s which IMHO don`t sound too much different, they will tell you they are better, well they have to justify the £300 somehow

DISCLAIMER

That is how i fitted my sleeves it may or may not be the best way to do the job but it worked for me.
Good luck

Thanks Tony. Excellent run down on the technique, must get it done now instead of just talking about it.

I can certaily vouch for the improvement in tony's exhaust note and increases in the amount of audable pops and bangs .
Just don't try out popping and banging a decatted and debaffled 4.5 Cerb though, they are louder .

I think this has already been covered before but for clarification: I have just rung TVR at Blackpool and they have told me that if i replace the cans with CCC then my 2 year warranty will be voided if anything should happen/go wrong to the engine. Is this a valid point or do i just take the plunge? Any help would be great as i was going down to pick them up this afternoon but i have decided to temporarily put this on hold (possibly for 1 year).
