The dreaded ETS light has come lit up on my 1999 Volvo V70 2.4 XT. The car runs ok, although idles a little low and feels limited'ish to around 80mph. The low oil pressure light is also on, although the oil level is fine and car is not leaking or burning any oil and there is no oil contamination.

I had my local friendly mechanic come round and read the codes and he tells me the only code on the car is P1620. His machine could not translate that code, but the internet tells me it is or might be 'MIL required by throttle unit'.

Is this a simple case of the car needing a replacement or refurbished ETM? If so I will take it off the car and send it off to BBA-Reman for refurbing as I understand that is the most economical way to effect a repair.

Any advice?

According to a russian site of error codes that came up on Google it is 'P1620 MAP Cooling Control Circuit Signal High' using the search term 'odb P1620 volvo'

Ahh ok, I was going by what was said here;

http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=670...

"Correct code definitions are:

P1610 Throttle Unit internal fault
P1620 MIL requested by throttle unit "

This seems to be fairly comprehensive;

But i'm still not clear if a replacement ETM will solve the cars problems - and put the warning light out!

That gives a few things to think about, unfortunately. Maybe a visit to somewhere with a Volvo reader. Good luck!

Tunku are you a member of the Volvo Forums by any chance? If so would you be a star and post my predicament over there to see if anyone can shine some light?

Thanks

I'll try - but here is a good place to browse, if you haven't already. I don't know if you have to register to see it.
