Hi guys managed to remove my dash today, i was sick of looking at the original with veneer missing here there and everywhere.First question unfortunatly i broke one of the tiny led"s [the red one] on the heater, where can i get a replacement.....maplins?. 2nd question how do you remove the radio panel, is it remove the cd player and access nuts/bolts thru this hole? 3rd For anyone who has bought a replacement s/steel dash [leven etc] are these used instead of the steel dash the veneer was stuck too, or are they that thin you use them with the original steel dash behind it?
Few pics... note the position required to undo some of the dash bolts!

I can't see your pictures, though that's not necessarily your fault because I'm using an iPad.

Link here to show how to remove dash, and bolt position http://www.chimaerapages.com/resources_dash.php though I might be a bit late as you've done yours.

This second link identifies the led's. http://www.chimaerapages.com/resources_partslist.p...

They're the ones I got - after trying several of the Maplins: I needed the resistor as per the eBay ones in my car.

Thanks for this link - just got those in. Was worried about all the dash threads I've read where people have been worried about busting those things. Now I won't be.

Judging by the contortions needed to get the dash out - I take it that taking the seats out would help? I'm thinking of taking mine out to do this job and to make it easier to clean them once they're out?

I just covered the leds up when I recovered mine

With my radio panel, I removed radio and cage and there were 4 little screws holding it in

I had the same problem but maplins stock the exact leds. I used the steel dash by way of bead blasting. brushing and powder coating. Also replaced all lights with white leds on the clocks....looks better than brushed ally !!

I will post some pics when i work it out!

Dash is back in now. I still have to fix the broke led, but im pleased with the result. Its a silver carbon fibre effect vinyl and i think it goes really well with the all dark grey interior.

Another job for me to do in the future.
Is there room enought to relocate the smaller dials closer together or in line to free up space to mount extra switches and random stuff?

Looks smart - Did you just re-cover the existing dash after peeling the veneer off?

Most of the veneer had lifted, and the mild steel dash panel had surface rust. So i cleaned it all down, removed all the surface rust, painted the back of the dash in primer [so no more rust] and used cellulose thinners on the front,[ to degrease it] then stuck the vinyl straight on to it.

Does anyone know where to source the LEDs for the warning lights, indicators etc? Mine are fitted with glue that looks like superglue and getting them out is proving 'challenging' to say the least.

I may have to solder or fit new LEDs.

Chimaerapages parts has an obselete link - maplins say they do not sell the LEDs.

Anyone know where to get them, or (ideally) a set of the mini circuit-boards?

Thanks,

Rich

Hi RIch,

AS you'd need to solder in new ones anyway, why not just un-solder the existing ones (leaving them in the holders) then solder them back again afterwards ? smile

Cheers,
Matt.
