I'm 5'7'', currently around 15stone. looking back on pictures in 2005/2006, I'd like to be that sort of weight (which was around 13stone.
After reading various things on HIIT, all sorts of weight loss types, cardio vs lifting weight, I seem to understand it call comes down to creating a daily Calorie Deficit.
Based on my age/height/current weight (5''7, 24, 15stone), my basic tickover/BMR would be 2000cals (I'm quite sedentary, I don't do much in an average week). As a result, I was thinking of aiming for a daily max calorie intake of about 1500-1700, with about 40min cycling about 4 times a week (or maybe 5, and this isn't including if I decide to cycle to a friends house or elsewhere). I don't really have money for gym membership, and lifting weights is completely alien to me (though it is something I would like to do).

My reason for choosing calorie deficit is because
1- it seems to be that this is what weight loss about. regardless of what you eat, long as you burn more in a day, then what you take in.
2- I could still try and eat things I enjoy, so it would feel 'normal', its just certain meals might be a smaller portion, or not as fattening.
3- if you have a bad day (where you go over your calories), you can make up for it by increasing exercise or lowering calories the next few days to compensate, and stay on track.
How does this sound?Or is there something else to consider. The only thing I haven't thought about is setting a timeframe as I've no idea how long it could possibly take. Have i hit the nail on the head? Or is there something else to consider.

Try it, see if it works for you.

For me, I seem to find eating less an easier option than exercise, but it's putting in the hard yards that seems to get the results.

It's completely safe to eat 1500 calories a day, you will see an improvement soon.

I'm doing something similar ,in training for a charity cycle ride in July and working overseas with absolutley ste food ....Russian greasy fatty even salads are loaded with mayo !! So very difficult to eat a balanced diet

Started training on 20 feb weight 100kg height 5'10 age 45 target weight 82kg
Eating one meal a day guessing 1000 - 1500 calories mainly soup chicken ,and drinking plenty of fluids 6 litres , water tea , juice ( no alcohol as its 0 tolerance out here )

training 3 times a day 4 days a week on excerciise bike : morning 10 miles @ 230 watts = 500cal burn . Lunch time 20 miles @ 160 watts 750 cal burn / Evenning 10 miles @ 230 watts = 500cal burn .
this morning was at 93kg. Goal is to hit 90kg before I return mid April ,
Know I will increase weight while in Blighty for 2 weeks but if I can maintain say +- 3kg it will be easier when i get back to work in early May to continue ?

trouble is its getting a bit addictive this cycling, sweating like a rapist and some of the Fit Russian girls that come in our works gym nearly make me fall off the bike !!
