Can you determine where someone is from by their looks?
Discussion
In terms of genetics, no, obviously you could be born somewhere different from where you genetic heritage would locate you.
But there is something I've noticed from going abroad, and that's that people who have grown up in a country do sometimes have similar musculature in their lower face. I've always wondered whether this is something to do with the development of face muscles due to the different language they are speaking. I've never bothered looking to see if this is real or if I'm mental though.

Do you mean in the UK, i.e. which town ?
I reckon you can. I think Scousers have a certain look, influenced strongly with Ireland.
No, from which country. For example, a large group of people from different countries, wearing the same clothing. Do you think you could match their faces to their country of origin?I reckon you can. I think Scousers have a certain look, influenced strongly with Ireland.

You're not mental; I've noticed it too.But there is something I've noticed from going abroad, and that's that people who have grown up in a country do sometimes have similar musculature in their lower face. I don't understand.
You know how when you ride a bicycle loads, the muscles you need to ride a bicycle develop? I think it's the same thing with the face, and making specific sounds. Some languages use certain noises much more often than others, which require certain muscles in the face to work in a certain way, so it would make sense that those muscles would develop differently in someone who was a native Chinese speaker, for example, than a native English speaker.GilbertGrape said:
I'm not talking about a persons clothing, but their looks/face.
Sometimes yes. Eastern Europeans and Russians I tend to be able to spot, and Germans and French and Italians as well but that's often as much from behaviour as looks (for Germans and French). Oh, and sometimes rarer ones like Fijians and Indonesians as well.
Mexicans often have disproportianatly large heads.
Some Gulf Arabs have eye defects.
Noses of Jews and Arabs.
Afghans, Pitans have a stare, that can be noticable.
Americans from the South drive a pick up and lots of English people never smile
Oh, you just did.
And on a good day I can usually spot someone of African decent.

Could be... and down to the type of food they eat? If it's raw, crunchy, then you'd use more resistance than perhaps somewhere where everything is stewed to a slop. But there is something I've noticed from going abroad, and that's that people who have grown up in a country do sometimes have similar musculature in their lower face.
