I would not thought this was possible but I have managed to break the axel (maxle size) on a Hope ProII rear hub! Has anyone managed to break a ProII let alone snap a axel?

No, how?

Did you land a gap jump short? Grand Canyon?

A mate is on his 3rd or 4th Pro2 Maxle in the space of 8 or 9 months. Even the uprated solid BETD axle broke. Others have had issues too so these threads might be worth a read

Never had issues with any of my Pro2's front 20mm, QR or Maxle rear.

Personally sounds more like an issue with these Maxle Lite axles to me...

Get onto Hope. Some people have had a new axle FOC. If not hassle them for a discounted upgrade to the evo setup. It requires a new Freehub assembly IIRC
