I'd urge you to consider upping the budget to £400, which nets you a Panasonic 32D28, which brings Freeview and FreeSat HD into the equation.
As something you'll not then change for the next 4-5 years at least, it's worth pushing to and putting the extra funds into.
If you must stick with your budget, then there's the X20 (last years model) which is HD ready and regular Freeview.

Alternatively, you're close to LED backlighting territory (which the D28 is) in the shape of Samsung and LG, which give them their dues, are pretty cool looking being so slim. I think they're still £30-50 over budget, and if you're in for a penny, you may as well be in for the whole pound.

I like my technology but draw the line at having a tv in the bedroom. Bedrooms are for rest, sleep and other "recreational pursuits", please don't spend your time watching tv in bed.

That's what my GF says but when she's round mine, she's the one with the telly controller.

If the previous selling price was fairly competitive, otherwise it's just a ruse.
For £300, it's an attractive enough looking set, with LED backlighting, but I would still be fighting against not spending the extra given the timeframe you'll use it before changing.
