I use Cyle meter and its fine for timing and avg speed but it is a little iffy with top speeds and altitudes IMHO.
Yeah top speed is occasionally off on mine, the altitudes are also a bit out but I fix this by importing the GPX into ridewithgps and run the correction.hughjayteens said:
MapMyRide seems pretty good offroad at least.
Shame about the adsI don't like Cyclemeter, it doesn't poll the GPS chip frequently enough to be accurate (although you do get your speed to 2 decimal places when it does manage to get a fix), but MotionX is superb.
Not sure if you are on the road or on a mtb. For off roading, MotionX uses OpenCycle maps and these are better than anything I have seen elsewhere, Garmin included.
I have the paid for MotionX but the free one is good too. You can upload routes to it, to follow and it has voice coaching.
There are now loads of free ones in the App store and most are acceptable performance.

If the app doesn't use much battery, it isn't normally accurate enough to be taken seriously.
It's all a trade off and you need to decide what you need, but an external battery and docking lead lets you use the best gps apps all day.
