Wondering if anyone can offer advice.

My Jeep has a dead battery - the remote will not unlock the doors so I cannot get under the bonnet to charge the battery confused

The keys won turn manually in either the drivers side, passanger or boot locks -

Pretty stumped by this one as can't seem to find a way of either unlocking the car or charging the battery.....

Just to compund matters - have a fella interested in buying it scheduled to come round tomorrow

any advice on how i can get into the car would be most gratefully recieved.

Cheers

its a MY 2000 old shape cherokee

Connect a battery charger to the connections on the starter motor underneath the car. Should give you enough current to unlock the doors.

Chop bush down? it'll be cheaper!

Back-feed via the towing electrics maybe?

How common is it that a dead battery actually means you can't open the door at all?! That's mental.

Then again, it is a Jeep hehe

I had the same issue a couple of weeks ago - completely flat battery. I was able to get in via tailgate. If you haven't already, chuck some penetrating oil into the locks - the tailgate is the most likely to come free, as it is the most likely to have been used manually.

Be warned that the battery will take some charging - a mates huge charger needed a few hours before dropping from putting 20 amps into the battery to 10.

Can you not just slide under the car from the rear. It's a jeep so you should have clearance. If not get someone skinny to do it.

I should imagine that this is a rather common problem. It's happened to me a couple of times.

Happened to my daughters 206.

I tried charging via the side repeater - didn't work.

But I then jacked it up and got power to the alternator which enabled me to unlock the doors.

not without getting into it.

its parked on soft, uneven ground so jacking it is a bit tricky.

does anyone know where the starter/alternator is on a 2.5TD cherokee?

A quick google turned up the following thread - looks like you just need a thin wedge prising the top edge of the drivers door open, then something to poke at the lock lever to unlock it.

http://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/flat-battery-locke...

Plenty of hits when I googled "jeep cherokee locked flat battery" so I'm sure there'll be other answers out there.

How do you know it's dead? It could just be sleeping..

Else if you can reach the solenoid connection from under the car you can charge it up from there..

Apologies for necroposting, but I have this problem with my E66 760Li, which has been off the road for almost a year, thanks to the pandemic and a misfire on all twelve cylinders. It's a 55-reg LCI, if that helps. Lock barrels on the driver's door and bootlid both refusing to turn. Tried the trick above, to no avail. Anyone got any ideas?
