I have a hillclimb Lola special with a 3.2 Porsche 915 LSD transmission in it. It is reluctant to change gear when cold, but very good when hot.

No other issues (it has been rebuilt)

It is suggested the oil needs changing. It has EP90 LSD oil in there at the moment.

I'm thinking Redline 75W90 NS GL5, but thought i would ask on here also.

Hope some can help please.

Graham.

Not very helpful are we!

I haven't changed mine yet so not something I have researched yet so I would try the Porsche forum or try some of the racing teams that run GT3's.

Thank you for the reply!
Have asked on other forums, inc the specialist who built the box and in the end simple 75W90 is the stuff to put in, from Halfords no less...

I hate gearbox oil, but quick change today as racing tomorrow.....

Thanks again, Graham.

Sorry you did not get a positive reply. Problem is we don't use that 'box in the Ultima so we would just be guessing.

I have that in my road 911 with the same type of gearbox, and although good stuff it hardly made any difference to the low temperature gearchanges. Hard to get in a day's notice too!

Thank you all for the responses.

This site has helped me in the past, so will always try it for answers.

Envious of your cars!

A regular hillclimber Mike Tregoning owns a Chevy powered one which i think is/was the 0 to 100 to 0 record holder? Saw it in anger last year, just fantastic.

The quality of your builds is really good.

if it helps my gear box G50 is not liking the cold either, I think you will somenhow have to live with it, or heat up the tranny before the race.

Hi guy's;
I have just had my 3.0l SC 915 gearbox overhauled by a specialist [Syncro rings + sleeve worn] and just needs new transmission oil. He fitted all new parts sourced from Preston Porsche main agent. He advised I needed 75W90 and to get from dealer. I contacted them but they informed me they no longer supply oils and other items for the 'older stuff' ie 911's because their policy is to ween clients off the aged motors and go down the new car route!
I put it to them that this was outrageous and pointed to 2 mint 911 examples in their showroom and said there was an obligation to still supply items for these 'aged' vehicles. They apologised for this situation but stood their stance and politely suggested I go elsewhere?!
If you are still reading this I just need to know should I go for mineral oil based or synthetic?
I have read through the above threads, very informative but I need to be clear before I purchase.
Thanks in anticipation,
Jim.

For the older 915 gearbox the most recommended Porsche gear oil is Swepco 201 GL-5
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technic...

for the later gearboxes (G50 etc.) and newer, the general consensus for heavy duty racing use is Mobile Delvac GL-5
