C5 battery life

My car's first battery was replaced under warranty. The replacement is now 3.5 years old and I'm starting to wonder whether it's time to buy a new one ready for the other to expire.
Any views from others on typical battery life in a car that's used two or three times a week?
Anyone know if the battery can be bought unfilled so it doesn't dteriorate in storage?

The C5 is and I quote “ an electrically intense experience” .. If you stick the battery on a trickle charge when your not using it you’ll extend the battery life and wont run into problems starting in the winter etc.
