Ted Lowe the famous whispering commentary voice of snooker passes away aged 90. frown

A good "break" but another of the great sports commentators goes.

RIP Ted.

Thanks for all you did in helping bringing snooker to the masses in the 70's.

I heard the news earlier and honestly thought he'd died years. Such a shame he's gone. RIP.

Saw this earlier on the snooker where they had an old interview of him from when he retired. Seemed a nice guy, although I am too young to remember his commentry. RIP.

Yeah. I found it particularly poignant when he looked into the camera at the end of the interview and said goodbye, and thank you for having me (or something like that)

He whispered because in the early days the players could here him commentating as their where no booths.Ray Reardon just told a story that he heard Ted say that Reardon was about to pot a red and go for the black to which Reardon turned around to him and pointed to another ball and Ted then commentated that he also had other options.
Ahh the world of sport before Sky wasnt it fantastic. Wasnt another classic for those watching in black and white the blue is next to the brown.(or something like that)

Love the Reardon story. It's very sad too hear he has passed on, I watched a lot of snooker over the years from a young age and I'll always remember his voice.
