Hi all. My Indesit makes an awful noise when on spin cycle, but there isn't any noise when you spin the drum by hand, nor does there appear to be any excess play in the drum.

Could it be the bearings in the motor? It's about 5 years old and gets used about 3 times a week.

Thanks

Tim

Probably is the bearings. When there's a little bit of weight in them, it can pull the drum forward and down and cause it to knock a little as it's spinning unevenly which, in turn, can nacker the bearings.

It's pretty normal for a lot of washing machines to go this way after a few years apparently. You could get it fixed, but you're probably going to look at not a million miles away from a new (cheap) one!

I've just taken a 5p piece out of the pump. Sounded as if all the gears had dropped out at once!

Just check to make sure there's no small coins, hairgrips etc in the pump - there should be an inspection cover down on the front of the m/c. get ready with the floor cloth as the pump contents empties itself over the floor.

oh, and do this whilst the m/c is empty!

Thanks for the replies! If it was the motor, I would probably have replaced it myself.

Cheers

bearings in the motor would still show when turning the drum by hand, assuming the belt is still on.
first, as already said, check the pump, then the concrete weight on the top and front of the tub, the bolts sometimes come loose (clue, lots of concrete dust everywhere.
If neither and the tub is made of plastic....scrap it, dont even think about changing the bearings. Life is too short.

Hi, I checked the trap and it was clear. No concrete dust either. I guess a new machine beckons.

Thanks
