USA - Vegas/Death Valley/Area 51/Grand Canyon/Route 66
Discussion
Hi Peeps,
Lots of USA road trip threads on here already so just wanted to post a few photos of my recent trip. We flew out with American Airlines (good value, but poor selection of in-flight films) and stayed 3 nights at the New-York-New-York-Hotel. We had a very good room/view and would definately stay there again. The south end of the strip is clean, modern and touristy, while the north end is a bit more seedy and traditional. I advise to see and experience both.
Day 4 we hired a Mustang (only a crumy V6, but it sounded OK) through Dollar and headed out into the desert, first to Badlands salt lake which was beautiful and then stayed two nights in the sleepy town of Beatty. This is the exact opposite of Vegas and I actually really liked it. However I am not sure I could ever live in a trailer park 200 miles from civilization. Next we did one spooky night in Rachel (no UFOs though) before heading down to Boulder City. A really nice little town, and the Hoover damn is pretty impressive.
After another drunken night out we drove to Kingman to join the Route 66 (lots of derilict old gas stations and rusty old yank tanks to spot at the road side) before reaching Williams where we caught the train to the Grand Canyon. Photos do not do that place any justice. The depth of the canyon is unlike anything. We stayed one night at the Maswik lodge, ate at the El Tovar restaurant, did a Helicopter ride, and walked as far down from the rim as we could before heading back in time to catch the train back.
Driving on those long lonely desert roads for me was the highlight.....

Great use of black and white photography.
Wierd one of a fairly straight road, with unbroken double lines in the middle - this usually means no overtaking, but why
Great picture of Hoover Dam (or damn if you like). I was above that last year in a Papillon helicopter.
Glad you enjoyed it
