(repost, moved to this thread)

So, in March, I ditched my car after swerving to avoid another who pulled out infront of me. It only looked minor damage, but was enough to write the car off.

I'd only taken the insurance out days before it happened... far from ideal, but then neither is crashing your pride and joy! The claim went against me, because I was kind enough to not crash into the back of the other car. FFS.

The insurance took an age to sort, because their claims team 'lost' my driving documents after I sent them recorded. Eventually, they told me the documents had arrived and the cheque was sent.

Fast forward to October and I get a visit from an ex copper asking me for a written account of the incident. He tells me they had not received any documents, and after checking the recorded delivery number, they'd been signed by the post room that had sent them?!

But they told me they'd received them! And the claim had been settled (i.e. the cheque was paid into my account?!)

So, I'll chase the post room who sent the docs, but what can the insurance company do? I'm really, really chewed up about this - never been in trouble in my life and they're talking solicitors and all sorts! It's a stress I can well do without.

Any info appreciated!

Given that I answered this on the ore ethereal and you've now added that the claim was paid then there's more to this than you're posting.

Insurers rarely reopen claims randomly like this and virtually never for a single vehicle accident.

They also wouldn't be conducting a fraud investigation on I'm eh truce paid out without some pretty good reasons.
Christ on a bike. There was nothing untoward about any of the claim, so I'm not particularly worried about any fraud nonsense.

The guy who came for the statement said he saw nothing worth investigating futher, and that everything looked above board. Except for the documents, which is understandable but out of my control.

BTW the 'solicitor' talk was by the interview guy, who only mentioned them in passing. So probably not all that bad.

Ok, so maybe my post wasn't entirely clear - it made sense in my head at least, but...

They have the car. But not the documents (I will fix that)

I have had the full settlement paid intoy account.

They apparently saw fit to reopen, I presume due to lack of documents, but can't be sure.

The car was all above board. And very much 'my' car!!! Everything was entirely above board - but of course, I would say that!

Not trying to mislead anyone here, but wondering where on earth they could take this given everything appeared settled?!

Sorry can you clarify who sent documnets where and who lost them? Are the Police saying you did not report the accident?
It's years since I had anything like this to deal with, but dealing with real life Policeman it was no problem.
Ex copper - not actual police. TBH I done know the guys actual occupation, just that he came to take a written statement and have it signed by me. He also asked for licence details etc.

The post room at my work sent, and apparently recieved back, the documents. If they have them, they'll be sitting in a box somewhere at work. Fairly sure I can find them, and get them sent off.

Right then that's it sorted.

The ex-copper will be a fraud investigator (loads of them do this to top up their already very generous pension).

The insurers want the documents, as they can't sell the salvage on without them. If they're in your post romm at work, then someone needs to review thir processes.

Simple really and hardly a "nightmare"".
Mate, for me this is!!! I'm being investigated for fraud!!! You know how much of a badass I am? I sometimes wear jeans to work. And when I was 15 I stole a CD off the cover of a PC Zone magazine (it had the shareware version of Doom on, and I couldn't afford the magazine)

Having some guy asking if I've 'had any money issues recently?' (no) 'tried to sell the car, but couldnt?' (no) and THEN reveal he was a copper for 30 years... mate I was white as a sheet!

But, thanks for the input. My mind is kind of running away with things over this...

Honest to God, this insurance company must be the biggest collection of clowns I've ever encountered. They actually told me they'd received the docs, but to the wrong office, so had to be sent via internal mail to another office. I called them almost daily asking 'have you got the documents?' until one day, someone said 'yes'. Said 'yeah we've got them, just getting them scanned into the system - once that's done, the cheque is yours!' The cheque arrived and all was settled.

Or so I thought, until Serpico arrived.
