Hi all. I was caught on the M6 northbound at j4 doing 58 in 40 according to the variable speed camera. Is it possible to contest this as the speed was different on nearly all the overhead cameras? I was driving in the other direction the following and the speed varied from 60 to 40 to national speed limit to 30 and the traffic was very light. Surely, this is dangerous and it can't be realistic to follow these speeds. The speeds are so varied I've long given up on following them and I've never had a ticket.

Any advice would be useful. Thank you.

Sorry. I meant the following day I was driving in the opposite direction.

The thing is I was only keeping up with the flow of traffic. Of I got caught, does that mean everyone did? Surly that would be hundreds of us?

Another point if makes any difference, the time when I allegedly got caught to the actual time was a difference of 5-10 minutes early. I know this as my wife made a phone call and we were about 2 junctions up the motorway.

Thanks guys.

Thanks for all the replied guys. Im very tempted to contest this, or at least ask to be put a SAC. I need to understand how it's safe for me to do 40, while all others around me are traveling at 60-70. I also need to understand how it's safe to be traveling at 70, then be forced to reduce my speed quite abruptly to 30 on the entry to quiet slip road causing the car behind me to swerve, beep, flash and swear at me. Surely this is nuts but its exactly what I'm having to do now on a daily basis.

Driving home today, quiet motorway stretch and the camera was set at 20. No traffic or road works. How is this justified? Does anyone think I have a case or do I just give up? To say this episode has p@@@ed me off as understatement!
