Mates

After a midnight call on Friday that our London office had had a break in, it appeared I was the only sober/available/mug keyholder, so had to attend, despite living in Dorset.

Long story cut to menial proportions, I was 'making progress' in lane 2, and came upon road works on the M25. See gantry signs, and convenient BIB waiting on hard shoulder.

A couple of miles on came the tug, BiB said straight away licence, made some notes, then patronised me somewhat, then explained that I had committed an endorsable offence, and would be reported. Whatever, it was a fair cop.

I await the flaming etc, and offer no excuse whatsoever, I didn't know that it was an offence to continue in a motorway lane, past such a sign. Perhaps I shouldn't be allowed to have a licence.

A quick google reveals that is indeed the case, and even shows up past threads here. The posting is purely to inform or remind any other mutually ill informed PH'ers that it is indeed an endorsable offence, and a silly way of accruing points. frown It seems the offence is treated as driving through a red traffic light. It even said that on the ticket.... I'm sure however if I'd stopped dead in lane two, some other offence would have been being committed.

Minor ray of hope; as I currently (didn't) have any points, the BiB begrudgingly explained that I may be selected for a driver re-education course rather than points. wink

On a side note that dash came is ace. What is it I'm after one?
Dashcam is a Blackview DR500GW-HD. I'm a fan of the Blackview stuff and have a 400HD model in another vehicle. I bought it from;

www.creativepeter.com

That website sells all Korean made (Blackview are Korean) stuff, including Samsung etc at bargain prices. The Blackview's come with Korean s/w, and you have to do a minor bit of hacking to get english s/w and voice prompts to work. They're available through UK disty's but at a higher price. I've has several shipments of stuff from them (I have no commercial interest or affiliation with the company, other than being a satisfied repeat customer). He'll also get stuff that's not on the website. My house is automated up with the Samsung Smart Home Digital Life systems; not at all available in Europe, but it's mega !

http://www.samsungdigitallife.com/Products.php

The 500 also has wi-fi and an android app so you can copy files and vie the content over wi-fi. The P.C. app also ties in with Google Maps, here's the full screenshot;

I run at 1080P, 15 FPS, as the HD definition is there for the detail, but it uses much less memory on flash than the full frame rate of 25 FPS. It also runs cooler at 15FPS as opposed to 25FPS. I had to add cooling holes to the 400 in the other vehicle. Google is your friend.

I also used to think that only 'odd' people would have dashcams, until a courier we use showed us some footage of car in front reversing into him, and claiming he drove into the back of them. He then successfully sued the other driver, and gave evidence to other driver's insurance company who took fraud proceedings against their insured ! Without the dashcam footage, it would have been his word against there's. I do anything up to 40K miles a year (commuting from Dorset mainly) and whilst the raods down here aren't too bad, I would no longer count on anyone with whom I had an incident to be transparantly honest.

How did they get past you in lane 2 scratchchin

Can't believe that you didn't know that rule, unless you passed your test in 1960 and haven't looked at the Highway Code since.

Yes, you broke the law, but not in the same league as crossing a red traffic light IMO. Should have just given you a rollicking.
I didn't know that rule, I simply didn't. No excuse as I'vce already said. I passed my test in 1988, and indeed have not opened a copy of the Highway code since. How many people can honestly say that have ? Really truthfully..readit

By that time I was tugged, I had moved into Lane 1. He also did a car in front of me too for same thing.

I have passed several attitude tests over the years. This BiB was on the officious side of professional. No explantion as to why he'd pulled me, just 'licence please', wrote notes, then said he was reporting me etc.. I chose not to say anything as it was one of those situations where I felt that anything I may say could inflame the situation, and lead to more grief/delay. All I could think about at the time was what could have been pinched from the office and how long I'd get stuck there overnight securing/dealing with stuff etc. Last thing I was going to do was come up with an excuse that I was in a closed lane as trying to get to my broken into property... I too feel that a ticking off could have been more appropriate, but then I would wouldn't I ?!

How many gantries with the red xxx's did you pass? I take it the M25 was completely closed and you would have had to come off at the A3 anyway, so why in lane 2?
Did you not tell them you were on your way to break-in, you might have got an escort! smile
Those are pretty clear pics from your camera, can I ask what system it is?
One or two.... They had already indicated for traffic to move to lane 1. I was just pressing on, for the reasons already explained..

I have never wanted a dashcam before (in fact I thought you'd have to be a weirdo to use one) but that quality is great! I want it, what is it and how much does it cost?

Seeing as the overhead gantries are inaccurate 95% of the time I'd get on with my business before pulling in as well OP, you have my sympathy - lazy, target driven policing.
As before, Blackview DG500, $285 USD here;

http://www.creativepeter.com/blackvue-dr500gw-hd-w...

or £229 here;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/BlackVue-DR500GW-Vehicle-R...

Thanks for your comments, in one way I was unlucky, in another, I've learnt something and can hopefully pass on to other PH'ers...

I like it.... yes

As before I didn't know. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. It was a fair cop. I did the crime, I'll do the time. Or the re-education course at least.........

encountered a whole shed load of op-like idiots on the M6 tonight heading towards junction 5 where the motorway was closed for 6.

Many people passed through at least 5 or 6 gantries with a red 'x' on the them, many of them dangerously cutting in at the last second. I really hope the cameras on the back of these gantries pinged a ticket to all those selfish tosspots.

Similar to all the shizheads you see using phones and taking pictures etc whilst driving. Lets hope they get picked up by cameras too !

Did those police stop you on a live exit slip lane?

If so, it would appear that they were bloody idiots!
They did indeed, The A3 slip off the M25 no less. The subsequent driver awareness course was underwhelming.
