I want to tint my windows but am a bit confused.

I know you need to have 70% light transmission for side windows. But the 70% tint on ebay is hardly noticeable at all. I'm sure I've seen cars on the road with much darker windows than 70%, more like 1% or 5%. I don't understand it.

That wasn't my question was it. I was wondering if I'd misunderstood the law - as there are so many people who drive with 'apparently' illegal tinted windows.

Just an update.

We had a go at fitting the tints ourselves and managed to get all windows done in 2 hours. It was surprisingly easy compared to what I was told. You don't even need to set it right first time because you slide the tints around the window using a water spray to get them exactly where you want them so there's no bubbles at all.

Although the 70% for front passenger windows is lighter than the 5% I put on the others the difference is hardly even noticeable. All the tints are much lighter when looking out from inside the car so nighttime driving is still safe.

Cost us just under 20 quid for the lot. I was quoted £180 by a garage and the misses was quoted £280 by another!

I would honestly recommend having a go at it yourself if anyone is thinking about it.
