Taxing Without a Logbook
Discussion
I bought a car privately earlier in the month. The seller didn't have a logbook, as he said he was waiting for it to come through as he had recently bought the car himself. In hindsight, this was probably rubbish, and he had likely lost it.
Last week I decided enough was enough as he was being unhelpful about chasing up the DVLA for his logbook (surprise), so I applied for my own with the V62 form & £25 as I have no new keeper slip.
The tax on the car runs out on the 31st of August, and I haven't heard anything back from the DVLA (presumably they have to get in touch with the previous keeper to confirm he no longer owns the car?). I have just checked, and I could have taxed it at a post office using the V62 form & fee, but I have already sent this off in the hopes it would have come back by now.
Where do I go from here? The car is on private land, and I don't plan on using it until mid september as it needs some work, but obviously I'd like to avoid a fine.
Thanks

This is what the .gov website says regarding getting a tax disc without a reminder:
You can apply at a Post Office that issues tax discs.
You’ll need:
a completed V62 ‘application for a registration certificate’ if you don’t have a V5C or if the V5C/2 is over 2 months old (and an application fee of £25)
Red Devil, it sounds like the onus is on the seller to inform the DVLA of the change in keeper? I can't see what more I could have done; it is just unfortunate that the tax expires this month. If my penalty will be to not be able to use the car until I receive the logbook, but have to pay the whole of Septembers tax, i'll be happy with that. Thanks
