I can kind of understand the "polite" horsey people wanting drivers to take notice and increase their safety etc....

Just had the misfortune of driving behind a total bell-end driving a Focus RS-powered Transit Connect done up like a police van with included area crest and battenberg markings, with POLITE in large letters over it.

Blatantly making itself look like a cop van.

Normally I wouldn't mind and laugh it off, but the guy was driving like an absolute throbber soft brake testing a Vivaro van behind him (I was behind the vivaro) and then thundering off like an idiot. I don't know if vivaro was a "friend" and they were having a laugh but FFS its rush hour people don't need idiots on the roads acting like idiots thats what a track is for!

I know there is probably nothing that can be done but I needed to rant biggrin

Dunno to be fair but but a quick google reveals they have a RS power transit and would tie in with CSM being in the "crest" part of the logo.

not in my mind a good advert for a garage! (mainly the state of the driving)

Polite horse riders I can understand, as well as cyclists and bikers. Increasing visibilty for more vulnerable road users is good and I dont have a major problem with it.

But a van fully liveried up like a police van including the crests is a piss take I am sorry!

As an advert yes it has worked as it has generated this discussion, as a technical showcase putting an RS into a Transit connect its very very cool, but pretending to be a police vehicle on the public highway its crossing a line!

Not only that but the driver last night was driving like an absolute dick, plain and simple and that is more my issue than anything, there is a time and a place for acting like a dick with a van/car and its not at 6pm on a monday night on the public highway. Get your arse on a trackday or a private road and act the fool.

What I would like to see is this:

Emergency vehicles that do look completely different to any other vehicle on the fecking road, so I can at a glance see it in my rear view mirror and start considering pulling over or getting out of its way. Or at least be aware of its presence if needs be.

All other vehicles NOT to look like an emergency vehicle so I dont have to glance again, and then start trying to decipher the script on the side of a van which is driving agressively up my arse end because the behind the wheel thinks he is smart.

diluting the look of emergency vehicles so they can act like pricks on the road and then just say "its an advert" is a s move. I seen this thing in the flesh and it took me a second glance to work out what it was, it didnt help that it had legit looking police crests etc... At first glance I assumed it was a police vehicle until I got close enough to read the crest and the "polite" banner across the back.

Now if the driver had just driven about as a normal driver instead of the idiot he was driving like I would probably ignored it, but due to the nature of his driving and the signage of the vehicle, I now know where not to take my car for any work to be done!

Its bad enough barried out idiots intimidating other drivers on the road in normal vehicles, to do it in one which is clearly marked up to mock a police vehicle is far far worse!
