Started a new thread here as per my thread in business, as is now more relevant here.

I am an electrical contractor, I took a CCTV job for a customer, who lets say turns out to be bit of a "nutcase"

Anyway day after I completed the job I got a call from the daughter telling me her mothers necklace was missing, and I was the only one in the house, I told her it must be a mistake/lost, she then starts accusing me of taking it.
I told her, nothing to do with me, and I'm not having this conversation with her.

I then block both of there numbers from my phone, as it was Sunday!!
I then get a voicemail, saying I must bring it back immediately, or there will be big consequences!!.
I have taken a recording of this message.

I had a call of the police this afternoon regarding this.
I could tell from his tone, that he knew this was a waste of his time.
But anyway, then came the problem, he can't come and visit me, as he is from gwent police, along with the "nutcase"
And I am from Gloucestershire.

So he told me I can either drive down (30 miles) and do a voluntary meeting, or he would have to ask Gloucestershire police to arrest me, and bring me to them for an interview.

Just after a bit of advice here really?

I'm guessing I would be best volunteering my self to save being arrested?

Do I need to be really careful about what I say?

Should I just "no comment" most things?

I don't really want to employ a solicitor etc, as I know I'm innocent , and there is no evidence!

He did say, he will wait a few weeks before requiring me, and it's unlikely to go anywhere, but will be up to CPS?

Oh and will this go on my record?

Cheers for any advice.

Cheers guys,

I will get and find a solicitor, or are the duty solicitors usually fine?

The officer did say I if I go in voluntarily, I won't be arrested, so if he does arrest me, that would surely be wrong??

Regarding the necklace, I'm positive it will be in the room somewhere. I asked her to empty her wardrobe (where cctv recorder going), and she basically just dumped everything on the floor,

So it's not hard to imagine a necklace sliding out under a bed/cabinet etc.

I'm sure when it's found I won't get an apology!

I do plan to go in voluntarily. The last thing I want is to be arrested at 5am.

I do find it rather odd that someone can make a accusation with zero evidence, and the police have to investigate, even though there is no chance of it going anywhere? Unless I was so make a false confession!!
Seems such a waste of police time.

Many thanks guys. Have got a meeting with a solicitor later in week.
Will also get her to send the customer a letter, regarding the letter she sent me, and for her to stop communicating with me.

Hopefully if she sees I have a solicitor acting for me, she will stop the "games"!

But we will see.

This is the letter I had by special delivery today:

If I believed someone had stolen something off me, the last thing I would do is invite them back around! confused

A little update,

Neither myself or my solicitor can get hold of the officer to arrange a time for an interview.......(both left several messages)
So now bit in the dark!

No more letters from the nutter yet..... I was advised to just ignore the last.
And if she contacted me, to tell her it's a police matter now.

But on the plus side been in contact with my local trading standards officer, who has been very helpful regarding the letter, and has agreed for a meeting to discuss the correct terms to put into my contracts to protect myself in future.

Oh dear....... Further developments!!!

She has only gone and reviewed me on as many online sites as she can (yell, 192, free index etc) accusing me of theft!!

She has even used her real name!

Forewarned it all to my solicitor for slander etc.

Have requested yell etc take the comments down, but might take a few days!

What ever next..............

OP, tell your solicitor that I will draft you a libel claim for free. Check that he or she is up to date with the 2013 Act. Most general solicitors know little about defamation.

Take screenshots of each defamatory web page.
Wow many thanks for the offer breadvan!
Yea he is going to pass it on to a colleague as it's not his field.

I have screenshots of all the web pages.

Although from what I understand suing her May be very expensive, and very hard to prove any "loss"

Although I would love to sue her and try and get some of my legal costs back, but can't see it being worthwhile?

But worth a letter or two to make her back down!

I already have got 192 to remove the comment, the others have been reported.

good luck with it. Yell is the one you need to hammer as it comes back first in the google listings, but you are looking extremely good on rated people so I wouldn't worry about this.

given how rated people shows the star rating straight away people will see this and go there to read the reviews. So many 5* reviews says it all really.
Yes Yell is the one concerning me most, as I get a fair bit of local trade through it.

BTW how did you find my company name, to google me?

Well I finally had my police interview this week, and TBH was a complete waste of everyone's time!!

It was clear I had nothing to answer to, I wasn't even directly asked if I stole the necklace.

The officer did keep bringing up her mental state, so thinking he thinks she is a nutter too?

As well as stuff like if doors were unlocked, potential for someone else to enter the building.

One thing I did find out, she claims this necklace was worth £500!! So wondering if she is trying an insurance claim now she has a crime ref?

Anyway both the officer and my solicitor agree the chances of this getting past the sgt, let alone the CPS is very small.

And have received no more letters.

Oh and apparently she was a bit angry that the comments were removed hehe
