83 in a 70 - opinions please

After some opinions on the most probable outcome of my speeding ticket if I may.

I was caught by a marked van on the A3 in Surrey doing 83 on a 70, no point trying to contest this as he had me bang to rights and it was my own fault (new car & an empty road) but I'd like opinions on the most probable outcome.

I've got 0 points on my licence at after 17 years and would prefer to keep it that way if possible so had a look online and understand there's 2 likely outcomes but welcome your views / advice:

A - 3 points and a £60 fine (I'm assuming 3 points but if someone could confirm it'd be appreciated).

B - A road awareness course (about £80-£90) and no points.

I suppose the main question is can I request the course when I reply to the original letter or does it have to be offered to me by return?

Apologies if these are silly questions but as above, I've not been through this before.

Just thought I'd put an update to this, letters sent off and I've been given the option of the course which I've accepted.
