M5 Southbound 40 specs

Was driving down from Yorkshire to Exeter with brother and remember seeing some 40 specs on the way down.

It was my turn to drive back up and when I got back home I for the life of me can't remember ever slowing down for a 40 zone. Just plenty of 50 zones

Can anyone confirm, not sure if the 40 on the way down was around J5 or J16. Google isn't helping much.
