Hello police peoples, I wonder if you can help me out with a question or two...

I am coming back to the UK after a good 10 years working abroad. Going through all our old paperwork we find that Mrs Oilydan's driving license has expired in November 2013.

Actually, since expatriating she has married me and therefore changed her name, sold the house and therefore changed address and got older so therefore expired. Oh dear.

She gets into the UK on December the 8th and we cannot apply for a new one before then as the passport is required, so how can we get her behind the wheel again with minimum fuss and no chance of falling foul of the law smile ?

Will she be able to drive while a new license is being applied for? I'm told this can take 2 weeks (longer if Christmas gets in the way?). I'm not getting back until the 18th so she'll be stuck, not able to sort out the new house etc.

What if we took copies of all documents and forms to present while the application was under process? Would this be sufficient to prevent a hefty fine for driving with expired license?

Help appreciated.

Great thinking guys.

Unfortunately her UAE driving license expires at the start of December too! We have been here for 10 years already it would seem smile

It is only the photocard that has expired, the paper part says 2046. But she will have to send off both parts for name and address change?

Passport is all done.

Its just that she needs it to travel back so we cant go posting it back for a DL renewal as is needed for the name change on the DL.

Renewal online is fine if it is just renewal, but with a change of name and/or address it has to be done by post, with all the supporting documents such as her passport.

I guess she'll just take copies of everything and send it all off, hoping that she doesn't get a 7 day producer in the interim...
