Ok, not me but Mrs C.
Sketchy details at moment as just had a stressed call...

Basically a man has stepped out right in front of her on a dark bit of road, leading out of a town centre.
Quite a narrow slow road and she is cautious driver so will have been going slowly.
Ambulance called.
I've told her to call police as well.
There are witnesses to what happened.
I've told her to get detail and numbers.
Cracked windscreen and not sure of other damage yet.
Not sure how hurt the man is but she didn't seem hysterical so presume he is a bit shocked and. Not badly hurt

What happens next?

Ha, thanks for that!
I'm sure she would have mentioned that...
I'll tell her to route through his pockets for I.D so we can sue for whiplash, trauma, loss of earnings, erm anything else possible.
;-)

Or just for a windscreen!

She was calling the police. They hadn't attended at the time she informed me.
I take it we will need his details to pass on to insurance to cover costs of damage?
Is that how it works?

Yes, damage costs to car.
Well police are there taking statements.
It was the chaps shoulder that took the impact on the windscreen.
He is in ambulance but apparently didn't want one.
77 yr old chap, hope he is ok.
They have indicated that his injuries are not bad...

Mrs C passed breath test.
Car is road worthy to drive home..

Why does it seem harsh?
His actions have caused damage?

A few years ago a little lad cycled straight into my car when stationary, we went round to his dads, told him what happened.
Quote for damage to front end, lights, bonnet, wing.
They paid for the repairs after the quote.

Why should I be out of pocket because he didn't check the road before crossing.
Incidentally, there is a crossing 100 metres or so up the road.

Don't get me wrong, I'm concerned for the old boy, but there is nothing I can do in that regard.
He is in the best possible care and as I said earlier, the injuries don't appear to be to bad.
It's just a crack in bottom corner of windscreen.

Again, I'm not meaning to be harsh but just looking for how to proceed...

How am I getting ahead of myself??
Well she is on her way home now so I will be able to get her one sided version of events...
Which I'm inclined to believe smile

Firstly I will ask if she is ok.
Then I will ask if the gent is ok.
Then I will ask how earth she never saw him make his kamikaze dash across the road.

Let's hope the OP hasn't misheard his missus and she's actually just mowed down 70 seven year olds.
With her being a primary school teacher, I bet that thought has crossed her mind!

That's a good point, I will certainly get her to do that.
Thanks smile

Will have to stop the old 10 points for an OAP joke.
At least for a little while?

I was initially thinking that she had just clobbered him properly and the car would have been a mess.
That doesn't look like its the case.
Seems more like a glancing blow but again, will find out more and update accordingly.

For the sake of £50 excess then it really isn't worth pursuing.
Chalked down to just experience, one of those things.
Hopefully the chaps condition doesn't deteriorate and that will be the end of matters.

The next problem is that Mrs C seems very calm and collected at moment.
Se usually is about pretty much everything.
I don't that this will dent her confidence behind the wheel, or change her driving style, she is actually pretty good.

You think the old man was suicidal? Despite not having seen any of what happened? Your whining about your windscreen is almost beyond belief, I'd suggest you have a quiet think about your priorities.
The kamikaze comment was tongue in cheek. Didn't think it actually needed a wink
I know exactly where my priorities are.
I was concerned about the damage, is that so hard to comprehend?

As I said earlier, I was looking for what actually happens next, that is all.

Well impact was circa 10mph and slowing down.
Guy hit his shoulder and promptly landed on his bottom.
Got back up again.
Talking normally and not in any pain.
Taken to hospital as precaution.
Was in between 2 street lights so on a dark stretch of road.
Busy traffic

She noticed him step out but couldn't stop in time.
He stepped out from drivers side pavement, across 1 lane.
Which I agree looks like a fair bit of time to notice, but dark road and unexpected...

She has to go to the police station tomorrow to give a statement.
She is taking a colleague for support.
Would she be better taking a solicitor?

Well nothing really to update.
The old chap was checked over and released virtually straight away.

Wife was questioned by the police under caution.
She declined the use of solicitor.
Police lady doing interview said there shouldn't be anything to worry about...
And will hear back in the new year.
Worst case scenario is DWDCA which is now a course and no points apparently.
They did say that this wasn't likely to happen so fingers crossed.
