Hi,

Had a letter today from Central Motorway police group saying I was driving on the hard shoulder in Birmingham when it was closed off at Midday on 15/3/15. No action will be taken on this occasion.

It was Mother's day and I was with my car at a restaurant (with my mum) about 130 miles from the M6 in Birmingham.

Who should I contact - obviously whoever has cloned my plate doesn't give a st hence driving on a closed hard shoulder and probably more offences to come in the future bearing my details.

Thanks

I've reported it on 101. I'll ring the DVLA Monday. My number plate is only 3 characters so its a deliberate act.

Lets hope so - in that case though how can they get it so wrong?

"Tweeted"?

Really ?? rolleyes
Based on experiences with other organisations, tweeting often gets a much more productive response than writing a letter or phoning so why not? It's a starting point.

I've had an email and a phone call (9pm) from Staffordshire police saying its a common occurrence they get this wrong (!) but I have to ask in writing for the photo of the offending car. They've also given me a direct line to ring but nobody will be able to help on that number until Monday.

The reply was from their website. The tweet got a reply saying I need to call 101 or speak to my local force !?!?

Both the tweet and the email got a response which I'm quite happy about. I'll see what happens Monday when I ring the number they provided when they phoned me as a result of the email.

Spoke to CMPG this morning. They say it's most likely a mis-read. I can write and ask for the details of the car but they won't release the photo because of data protection (even though its supposed to be my car!) and will only write back if the plate does read as my number as I can take action from there.

All this facebooking and Tweeting is for geeky beardy types, all untterly pointless!
Re the clone, had the same problem with mine A 1 VDY, had it cloned but they were soon pulled through putting the 1 next to the V to spell the obvious..

But private plates should only be used to disguise age otherwise they're for 'bellends' remember.........

I'm still trying to work out the obvious meaning of 'A 1VDY'.

A mate had this issue a while ago. He was advised by the police to put a random sticker (even a GB sticker) on the rear of the car, that way if you do get zapped by a camera then you can help identify it as not being you.

This stuff is great. I'll remember this thread next time I get a speeding ticket!!
Yep but they'll send you the photo of the speeding car without quibble ! No data protection issues there.
