Well, I think they have reached new heights on this blunder.

We moved house 3 months ago, sent the V5 off with our change of address in Febuary and today received a cheque from them for £187.50 which was sent to our old house and redirected by Royal Mail.

It can only mean that they have assumed we sold the vehicle to ourselves at our new address. So now my van is not taxed, I'm working tomorrow and the dvla is closed until Monday.

It's staggering. Fortunately, my wife does not send any paperwork to those muppets without photo copying it.

What's the chance of me getting stopped before I can get it sorted?

You can tax it online instantly
Yes, thanks. Done it now.

Annoying, as I have owned it since new and it will now say 1 former keeper on the V%

OP - are you sure you filled the V5 in correctly?

Only asking!!!!
Oh yes! and I can prove it.

My wife photocopied the completed form. I'm looking at it now smile

Always, always photo copy stuff destined for dvla.

ok, been on the phone to a very unhelpful welsh woman at dvla.

The original V5 has my name followed by "plumbing and heating". The new V5 just has my name on it because that was what I put in the box for "First name" and "Surname". Not sure where I was supposed to put the plumbing and heating bit! No spaces for that.

So, according to her it doesn't matter that I didn't tick the box for new keeper, it's still a different name on the V5, which means a new keeper.

Looks like I'm stuck with it. She did say I could write to them, but I don't hold out much hope of that.

As mentioned by others on here, I have paid road tax twice for April!

Sorry, but I really don't see this as DVLA's cock-up.
Tend to agree - unless as I said, the form isn't clear. Maybe they should put "DO NOT ENTER NAME IF ONLY YOUR ADDRESS HAS CHANGED" near the boxes?
That's why I asked the OP if he's sure he filled the form out correctly.

Whenever I change address it's the address lines only that I fill in, never the name details.
Ah, good point! Never thought of that.

In the same place you put it last time...?

How are they meant to know that your intent wasn't to change it from your business name and address to your home name and address? Which would be a change of keeper.

If you're just changing the address, why even fill in the name box, especially with different details to those shown about an inch above the boxes you're filling in...?

Sorry, but I really don't see this as DVLA's cock-up.
I've never had to put my name on the V5 before. I buy my vans new from the dealer. They sort out the paperwork.

and you are right. Not a cock up by dvla, just a misunderstanding on my part.
