Last night wasn't great. It's my own fault I know but on a nice quiet stretch of motorway at 1am on a Sunday night I got nicked doing just over 120mph. Not good but if you take these risks you have to face the consequences.

Currently I have a clean licence and I need my licence for work. I won't loose my job as I am the director but it will be a pain.

What do you lot reckon I will get?? Worst case and most likely it's a ban. With a very good solicitor and a lucky mag on the day I'm hoping (praying) for 6 points and a bigger fine.

Thoughts please guys? Btw the police were very nice and just doing their job, I knew what I had done and made my bed so now I must lay in it!

No not in the fezza! I was driving a 147 GTA so still Italian!

You have to take responsibility for your actions and we all have choices.

Yes I think it will be a ban too frown but I will try my best. All depends how it goes on the day I guess

Happened on the M27. I will update on here once it goes to court and let you all know the outcome.

No point worrying too much about it!!!

6 points would be ideal! Unfortunately relocating to St Tropez is not an option!!! I'm far from rich just work in the motor trade and put my profits into appreciating vehicles!

Let's hope for the best.

It's by no means a definite ban. Turn up to court, apologise and don't offer excuses. A letter from your employer saying it's out of character and that you losing your license will be detrimental to your staff who rely on you to bring in business etc. I've said this over and over again... it got me 6 points and a large fine.

You can't offer 'exceptional hardship' in the strictest sense but certain mitigation and appearing to be remorseful and sorry and without trying to excuse your actions (which seems you've got that one OK) and you're by no means guaranteed a ban.

You may end up taking a 2 week holiday which may end up better for you?
This is my favourite post wink I think realistically and hopefully it will be a shortish ban and if I'm very lucky 6 points as you say. I did kind of know / guess this but I hate uncertainties and not knowing the outcome. Now I just have to wait....... a loooong time which is the annoying bit; I would rather get it sorted tomorrow!!!

Thing is the Mrs is 5 months pregnant too - she's not too impressed! Usually she really wouldn't mind but it's not just me and her now!

Grey BMW 330D by any chance?? The M3 & M27 is always patrolled by unmarked cars, sometimes a black soda VW's but mostly BMW's
Yes it was a grey 3 series 4 door saloon. No badge on the back. Sat in it for a little bit while we went through formalities with one officer while the other one checked my vehicle over which was obviously all in order.

As I said the police were nice, friendly and were fair. At the end of the day I was caught red handed and wasn't denying anything as there is no point. I knew what I had done and honesty gets you further!

Certainly won't be doing it again; can't afford the consequences. More track days and blasts across Germany to the ring from now on.

If you knew what I once escaped with, and a customer of mine has escaped with, in encounters with even fairer traffic plods, I think you'd be very much pissed off.

There was really no need to book you. I don't see them as fair at all.
I have met fairer Police before. But I will never argue and they are just doing a job.

I used to work in the motor trade and have been banned for speeding on 4 occassions. Neither nor big, nor clever, but it is what it is.

Haven`t been nicked in 7 years now and never take the cruise above 70 on the motorway as a rule. A combination of growing up and having my daughter on board.

Only ever late at night on a deserted motorway in a vehicle comfortably capable of the speed/conditions. Also always employed a brief, wore a suit and kissed arse.

As a guide, received the following:

A1M - 126mph - 2002 - 1 week ban - £1600 fine
A1M - 138mph - 2004 - 2 week ban - £1100 fine
M1 - 133mph - 2005 - 4 week ban - £450 fine
A1M - 128mph - 2008 - 30 day ban - £850 fine

I find the whole, hold your hands up, admit your an idiot patter to work.

Personally I was always grateful for a short ban and not having silly amounts of points to worry about for years. Also I just employed someone to ferry me about, much cheaper than you`d imagine!

Good luck fella thumbup
Cheers mate - interesting reading there.

I think this might have been me. You sure it was grey. I was out working but was in a dark blue 3 series M27 Pompey/Eastleigh.
Maybe it was you! It was dark so can't be sure on colour. 2 officers, one female the other male. Male was driving and I was stopped at the top of the hill on the a31. The female booked me while the male officer checked the car and noted the front tyres were low.

Ah it wasn't me. You were stopped by a dark blue 3 series though. We have a few.
This post makes me chuckle; the tone of the post makes me suspect HantsRat knows a little more about it than just the model and colour of the car.
Yes agreed. I'm sure they all compare the sizes of their catch

Update on this one for those who are interested.

Had my court case yesterday and I got a 56 day ban. Could be worse but could have also been better but it is what it is. Only 55 days to go.

Sounds like a decent outcome.

Probably a good thing you didn't go armed with the "evidence" from this thread and start a lively discussion with the bench about stopping distances.
Yes quite! That wouldn't have gone down well. They are only interested in the facts of my case and not a lot more as they do not have time to waste. Considering the circumstances I did get away with 56 days and without those circumstances I may have been looking at 3 months plus. I will get through it but it does feel strange not being able to hop in a car and drive somewhere. I was hoping for 6 weeks or less but that was quite optimistic.

Your licence is either clean or it isn't. I think you mean that although your licence isn't clean, this is your only offence.
You and others know exactly what I mean. No need to be pedantic!

A straight ban for an SP30 would, I assume, be weighted rather heavily because it's self-evident that it was an egregious speed. My money is on £400 also. frown
My insurance varies as I have a business policy and then my own vehicles. Some are on laid up insurance some aren't. I've got an Elise and that is only £300 to insure on a full policy. Can't see that going up to £700 but let's wait and see! Think it is due soon so will update the costs.

Overall it is costly once you account for everything and there is no getting away from that!!!!

It is for sale! Just not advertised at the minute. It's a lovely car with only 40k. Funnily enough the solicitor who defended me has expressed an interest in it!!!!
