We bought a new Skoda Citigo sport just under 2 years ago, when the V5 arrived we noticed it said the car was an SE model, not a sport. After discussion with dealer & Skoda UK, letters were sent from both to the dvla and V5 was 'corrected' to say sport model.
I've been to dealer to ask about upgrading to an Octavia and was given shockingly low trade in value. To be brief, it turns out the car is still regarded as an SE on insurance / hpi / trade value sites, hence the lower valuation.
So, advice required from learned friends here on ph, the dealer is trying to pacify me with an increased offer however we have another 2 of these cars in the family which are the in the same situation.
Therefore I think the whole issue needs addressed properly now rather than me just getting an acceptable deal for one car, then facing the same battle another twice later down the road.
At new there was around a £1400 difference between an SE and Sport, I reckon the difference now is around £1000, maybe a touch more.
To be fair I do have a good relationship with the dealer and they probably expect a flow of future sales from our family, so fair to say this probably puts me in a very good position.
So, advice sought from ph, how do you view the situation and how would you proceed?
We clearly haven't done anything wrong but now stand to lose financially on 3 cars, the more i think about it the more wound up i get!

I've had another couple of values which quite frankly were worse as non skoda dealers. The problem is the car being valued as an se not a sport. Big difference between the two.
Wherever I go it's going to be the same problem.

elanfan - yes and no. All involved thought the issue was resolved when dvla corrected the v5, which technically is correct. Its came up again as we've tried to get a trade in value.
I think its going to be very difficult to get all the insurance / hpi/ trade value sites to change their systems, this is where the problem now lies. I plan to speak to dealer principal it will be interesting to hear their response I think. Not quite sure how to proceed if they can't / won't help.

Irrespective of the V5 discrepancy, won't the dealer give you the true trade in value (based on the sport model) for this and the other 2 cars, when the time comes to trade in?
Yes this could work if I'm happy to ignore the issue. However if we want to replace any with a non skoda, the issue will stand and we'll lose money. Doesn't matter how I try and explain it to other dealers they will go with the trade price in front of them.

All that jazz said:
I reckon they probably already are but the OP is trying to use the "SE" issue as justification for their low ball offer.

The OP should just flog it privately. Problem over.
Rubbish, see above. If we go elsewhere it's a problem.
As for selling myself, don't want to, don't need the grief, plus anyone on the ball doing an hpi will come across the issue then it's a problem then too.

Well on Autotrader 2013/13 SEs seem to start at £5800-5900 ignoring the Cat Cs. Sports seem to start at about £6000, what numbers are you using to get your £1000 difference?

I also see that Skoda will currently charge you £2500 for a Monte Carlo over the base Citigo which seems to offer alloy wheels and spoilers...

Andy
I'm not getting into an argument over autotrader prices. The se is 2 levels below the sport plus ours are 5dr so worth a bit more again. Dealer agrees there is easily a grand of a difference. As for the Base v monte, there are quite a few differences.

Having slept on it I think a discussion with skoda UK is probably in order as I'm sure it will come back to how they registered them with dvla.

Many thanks for the sensible replies.

Dealer has been excellent (as usual to be fair), the problem seems to lie with the Experian system as the cars are all ok everywhere except the insurance database side of things, this somehow ties into the valuation sites.
Discussions are undergoing to rectify the situation.

My main concern wasn't with my car and the current deal as i knew I could get a decent deal, my concern lies with my daughter and niece's cars when they change in the future. Its likely as two young ladies they will change brand and any dealer will use any excuse to give you as little as possible for your trade in.

On a far more interesting note for PH, new Octavia Scout 184 DSG is on its way to me. driving
