So, further to my last post - i have a video and some stills of the person that has been stealing my mail.

The shot is of his back and a bit of the side, and you get a general idea of where he was walking from. Unfortunately the camera cuts out shortly before he closes the mailbox back up with my mail in his hand.

I've now mounted the camera behind the front door and i'll see if he returns today. I don't know for sure that he will, as he now has everything he has "ordered". Credit card, debit card, pin reminder, new pin, telephone banking security number.

The police came round and were nice enough, but he hasn't gained anything so no crime has been committed. If i catch him today with the key, then he is classed as "going equipped" and they'll definitely be interested. I have to catch him in the act though! I was told to report it to action fraud, but they were already of the same opinion. We'll be chasing the landlord for a new mailbox, as he definitely has a key - we want more secure boxes installed, not just replacement locks.

In my opinion, a relatively small amount of detective work is involved here. Call the number for the mailbox manufacturer which is on the front and ask if anyone has ordered spare keys. Check the CCTV cameras covering the area (Central London FFS) and see what you can see. Follow the guy!

Suggestions?!

It will - but if i wanted to surprise him i'd hook up a car battery or stick in a tarantula or something.

I'd just quite like him arrested.

I just chased the fker down the street! Happened to be going down to check my mailbox and he was standing there clear as day!

Now have a face on shot of him, but the background is light and he is very dark

i was coming down the stairs to the front door and stopped.. saw him, hid behind the wall and then when i saw him leaving jumped out and got in the car. No sign.

Police still not interested.

hasn't been in the bank as far as i'm aware.. i'd post the pictures here if anyone is handy with photoshop and reckons they might be able to brighten them up and make the face more distinguishable

i'm of the same mindset, but far be it from me to question the policeman that was sitting in my living room and telling me as much.

yeah, we're in the process of arranging at least new locks, but ideally new mailboxes.

The frustrating thing for me is that i know what he looks like and i know roughly where he came from, and i know exact times - so have a quick look at the cameras? I think the main thing is trying to convince them that a crime took place. The only way they seem interested is if i can follow him, where i will get "at best" a 15 min response time. I don't want to have to try and follow this guy for 15 minutes!

he had no reason to turn up today, he's got everything that he has "ordered" - and i know of at least three items of post that i have requested that have never arrived. 1 personal, 2x bank stuff. By my count this has been going on since April at least. Every single person in the block of 5 has had the same thing happen in the last 12 months, but from my footage he is only looking at my mailbox just now.

also to add - it's definitely not the last occupier and they were here for quite a while. Whether they are connected though, i don't know.

leaving the camera where it was today all day is not the best, but if i can then i will mount it higher up, looking down to avoid backlight from the sky.

the problem seems to be what is classified as stolen. I have had mail stolen, i know this because i can detail a total of 8 different things that have been sent but not received (5 from "him" and three from me). This however, doesn't seem to be enough!

All accounts that he has tried to access have all been changed and all my mail is going to the local branch. Any account he hasn't accessed so far is aware of the situation.

I'll have my mail held at the post office once I've heard back from the landlord about our new mailbox.

Overall I'm not too concerned for my finances as I've caught everything he has done before it has had a chance to cost me anything. If anything, that's the problem.

I'll go back today and wait for him and this time try not to lose him.

he doesn't know i "chased him" - i wasn't running after him shouting "citizens arrest!" or anything..

I got in my car and tried to follow him, but by the time i got to the end of my street he had gone. I suspect in to a car or another building.
