I've been with Swiftcover for a few years now. Previously, when I've bought a car and changed the plate from the original registration number to my own, I've never been charged as I've done it online and avoided any admin charges.

This time, I've been charged £6.90 and they've still proudly announced that I have avoided any admin fees. Therefore, this £6.90 seems to cover an increased risk until the end of the policy term which is December. How can a different registration number cause an increased risk?!?!

Perhaps you're right but on the previous occasions I've changed registration number, I've never been charged.

Statistics. Maybe more cars with personal plates make claims or suffer more accidents?
When I am Evil Emperor I will decree that all those who have personal number plates will be charged a kabillion bucks for insurance (each week).
At least you didn't mention a tw4t tax as I presumed someone would.
