I know the answer and can see why but...
My parked car was hit this morning by a scumbag* neighbour, His shed of a car was idling outside ( minus backbox ) droning away and as I looked out he was reversing towards it to drive away. Could see what was going to happen as he got closer and crunch, shouted out the window and he stopped and got out.
The usual "sorry didn't see it, my fiance's grandads just died don't start" bullst started and I was getting angrier all the time. Said look just give me your details and let the insurance sort it out. Lo and behold " wey to be honest pal I dont have insurance, can't afford it im on the dole".At this point I was fking livid (hes had the car for 2 bloody weeks and been using it regular!) and started a verbal volley of abuse at which point he asked If I" wanted to go up the field and sort this out" so
Laughed at him and walked away.
Hes offered to bring me money tomorrow to get it fixed but said how the hell do you know how much its going to cost! Now i've calmed dow a bit and stood and had a good look at the damage it looks minimal, bumper pushed out a bit, plastic clips damaged, bumper insert knocked out. Mk5 Golf.
  • 3 kids 3 dogs, a partner that looks like she lives on heroine, lets his dogs st all over the land opposite his house, stands around his car with it droning away with his cronies, probably gets his rent paid etc etc.
Now the quandry. Im really concerned about any repercussions of reporting him, he told me he had no insurance and offered me money ( to keep quiet maybe, who know?) to get repairs done. He has undesirables visiting him quite regular, so obviously has "friends" not to mess with, has been using the car since he got it a while ago and I cant believe he hasnt been caught before now! and my family are regularly in the house when im not there. Everybody I have spoken to has said to just get on the blower, but to be honest I would say that as well if I was them, and didnt have to live round here, and constantly look over my shoulder and worrying about what was going to happen to the house/ car!
Heart over head, im so chewed up over this!
Cue the MTFU responses...
In a nutshell, been hit by uninsured scum and scared to report it!

If he doesn't pay up, report.

If he does, give it a week or two then report.
One option but a bit concerned that I now know and the police will ask why I didnt report earlier and b it gives him time to buy insurance (if hes even bothered!).

Totally understand what you're saying and know what insurance is there for but as said In the OP I'm a bit of a soft sh*te and really concerned what repercussions might come our way if I was to do the decent thing, living 3 doors away.
I realise I am being really selfish about it, but the safety and wellbeing of my family have to come first.
