Conveyancing - incompetent solicitor
Discussion
Who is now ignoring me...
How do you kick things on? - refuses to answer my calls, refuses to answer emails...it's now 11-12 weeks into the process for a tiny chain (me in the middle of a FTB and executor)...
Press for questions, targets etc. with no reply and no clue whats happening - our original exchange target was over a month ago! (Allowed 7 weeks to there!)
Even being called by third parties as they have the same treatment...
'#frustrated!

3 point plan holding up something so important- practical advice, IANAL.
1) Local? Turn up. Doorstep them until you get answers.
2) Check their history: https://www.sra.org.uk/home/home.page
3) After all is resolved consider a complaint to the SRA https://www.sra.org.uk/consumers/problems.page

Has Probate been granted? they could be waiting on that to start. What has the agent said? are they not chasing?
Probate there and ready, I've spoken to the agent who is also getting continual fob off treatment - "on another line - will call back" and then nothing, repeatedly...He has even called her incompetant....she is a partner so can't go higher
Can't find her on SRA - (maiden name?) - search in top right (or the firm) but can on the law society's site?
Pitching up is difficult - I'm in a work busy period atm so my normal 6:30am - 7pm days are stretched....further - may have to take a half day when i can though
Its just the little things atm - when the agent did get through she didn't know what stage we were at, can't answer questions re. purchasers position (wanting ancillaries or not?), trying to get a date sorted....
Agent said that I needed to request a report from my management co. (his update from her) yet I know nothing of it.... etc. etc. etc....

That's crap service my FIL has over 75 this will increase to over 200 come April on dictation waiting but he still knows them inside and out but also has 4 secretary's typing. He done ours in 3 weeks but we didn't pay and could chase him for answers every night as we stayed there He has even called her incompetant....she is a partner so can't go higher

If you started again and look as if you wont get any info it could be 4 weeks if everything is in place maybe quicker if they can get any info of your solicitor. I would look in to the turning up bit it might get you the answers you need.
Good luck OP

The above poster's FiL sounds similar to me save I don't do bulk If you started again and look as if you wont get any info it could be 4 weeks if everything is in place maybe quicker if they can get any info of your solicitor. I have one in my draws at the minute. Contract received 19/20th October (came in two e-mails) and we were ready to exchange, with full searches and mortgage offer in place, by 5th November. Would have been 3 days before if they had remembered to attach a document they missed off.
Anyone half hungry and who knows the back story should be able to pull you back into the time scale within a week. Sorry but the rep you have at the minute does not sound like they are doing very well (there are always two sides to a story but her's isn't looking too cleaver right now...).
Put it this way you could be where you are now in a weeks time based on the experience you have related or you could change horses and be further up the road. I am usually one of the last to say to change half way through something but there is a serious issue if you are not being communicated with at all.

Fairly local firm, unsure of scale - can't name and shame so picture the job title of somebody who "xxxx" bread and a well-known fast-food chain double-barreled.
Quote not particularly cheap - £1600+ SDLT IIRC so comparable with others, went with her as its local
Slightly off topic but a no naming and shaming policy seems fairly redundant if this is allowed.Quote not particularly cheap - £1600+ SDLT IIRC so comparable with others, went with her as its local
As clues go, it's not exactly the Times cryptic crossword.
Update:
Called late in the day yesterday and she wouldn't speak to me, given the "she's busy but said" excuse - waiting on doc's from the other solicitors (the fact they are chasing me shows this isn't the case).
I would love to change but aren't I too far down this road? - also other complication is that as this process has dragged on she has been removed from my lenders panel....for poor service....so have another lot appointed by the lender to handle the cash...
Just a total and utter nightmare!

It's the most important transaction you will make for years. Take time out half day and go to see her. You could mention a complaint to the SRA, but that runs a risk that she downs tools and you have to restart - but if you are getting nowhere anyway, it might be a risk worth taking. You will probably get your payment back anyway if I have read the SRA details correctly.
Pragmatic way - call the SRA today for advice: https://www.sra.org.uk/home/contactus.page
It's only a nightmare if you remain so passive.

Seriously though, if you have emailed and called complaining and been fobbed off then send a last email to both the partner and the "email@xxx.com" to say that you are contacting the SRA to complain unless you hear from them by [TIME/DATE].
If they still ignore you then something very odd is going on or they truly are cowboys/girls.
ps why do we have the no name and shame rule? presumably to prevent libel actions but surely all opinions given on PH are honestly held opinions?

This. Unlike small forums/privately run forums, Haymarket presents a good "target" for a libel case, hence they have to err on the conservative side of moderation. At least I think that is how Paul Garlick once described it.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
