Spent a bit of time on DCs with average speed cameras on them these last few days.

The number of people who go flying past me then slam on the brakes when they see the yellow cams.... Do they not understand how this works or what?

When I posted this I actually expected people to shoot me down and explain what I was missing.

Rather tragic to think that in fact it is because so many road users are absolute morons..

Interestingly (well, kind of) what got me to post this thread was I was in a 40 limit and I had a near constant stream of trucks up my backside then cruising past me...

Are you 100% sure you read the limit correctly? Not saying you didn't but if you're the only one trying to do what you think is the limit, you might have misread something.
Yes, it was the A14 at Cambs. 40 not 50 sadly. And there was a fair few people sticking roughly to 40, but oh so many who flew past then braked hard....

The one thing you can do of course, is stop between two cameras. Take a nap. Then you can "safely" (on their logic) travel at 130mph to the next camera............

I think one of the worst things about average speed cameras are the difficulties it causes when you try to pull on from a slip road, but the people who appear to actually have the brains to work out what average means are driving on the inside lane at the limit......

Hmmmmmm, driving at the limit on the indside lane, if the lane is clear, that's where your supposed to be isn't it?

Correct. But the problem is with average cams you can't accelerate to get into a gap...... Rather dangerous really.

Why can't you accelerate to get into a gap?
Because you will then exceed the average speed and get points.

And you can't then drive below the limit to reduce your average because you get lorries RIGHT up your chuff....

Which in itself suggests that the poster doesn’t understand average speed cameras (the topic of this thread) or how speeding is policed (the topic of many threads on here).
I think you may have "missed" the part where I noted that if you subsequently slow down to bring down your average speed you will get a lorry right up your chuff.

Well, I've not travelled at 60mph in a 40mph limit to find out....

Not as incredible as anyone thinking avoiding deaths is the only reason for speed limits.....
