Sale of a deceased parents vehicle

Hi all, my father recently passed away and I now have to sell his 2006 V50. It is in his name but he hasn't made a will. So my mum is applying for probate.

Now, can this be sold before probate or will it have to sit and wait? If probate takes a few weeks, that'll bring it to insurance renewal time and nearing MOT time in August. Plus I don't want it sat anyway.

I've had a look around google and can't get a definite answer. I'll even consider WBAC if I get nowhere with it but again I'm not sure how that will go with V5 in his name etc.

Thanks guys I appreciate that. Fortunately the insurance company just changed his policy to my name (with no fee) for the remainder of the policy. But it will then just expire.
