Car sold today, new keeper has gone off with the V5c and I'll be posting the V5 to DVLA tomorrow. I'll also be removing my personal plate using the online system once its up and running again at 8am tomorrow. Am I right in thinking that the new keeper won't end up with a V5 in his name with my plate on it as long as the removal is actioned prior to the keeper change landing on DVLA's doorstep?

Thanks.

Ta chaps. The buyer's fine regarding the plate, even if he does end up with a V5 for it in his name, it won't be an issue. I just wondered regarding the timing really - 8am tomorrow, online plate removal....Wed/Thurs (?) V5 with change of keeper lands at DVLA.

Don't send the V5C that has the private plate on it. Get online and take the plate off asap then wait for the new V5C to arrive then send that.

If Swansea receive the one with the private plate they will cancel the new tax on whatever car you put the private plate on because they don't read the document refs or even the model details.

Ask how I know this...
Thanks for that.

Evening all.

Plate removed online this morning at 8am, retention certificate on its way. New keeper's gone to his local PO this afternoon with a V62 and taxed it there if I understood him right....presumably backdated to 1st August.

I spoke to a very helpful guy at DVLA earlier - he said I'd be getting a V5 through the letterbox in my name with the original plate on it, automatically generated by the personal plate removal. He said that the application for a V5 via the V62 from the new keeper would nullify the one generated this morning by virtue of the 8-hour time difference....and that I should bin the V5 I've still got in my name with the personal plate on it.

Hopefully, job done. But as I said earlier, if the new keeper had ended up with my plate on his V5, it wasn't anything I was worried about. You'll have to trust me on that one!
