Here is the situation, some old cow decided I didn't get off the road quickly enough for her liking (whilst pushing a pram!) and hit me with her rear view mirror causing a large bruise on my back.

She stopped at the end of the road then got back into the car and drove off when I went running after her to get her details.

Police have spoken to her and apparently I "scratched" her car so they are doing nothing further. How do I take this further? Is it possible? Are we really in a position now where if someone is struck by a car but the driver says they scratched the car nothing is done?

As annoyed as the op may be, his bruise will go, and yes she should have stopped and apologised, he was crossing the road and he's allowed to do this, she could have avoided hitting him, could have been more observant, if understand why the OP is upset as he's the injured party but he's gonna have to let this one go. Sorry to sound negative, but I think this is one for everyone to just move on from.
I was not crossing the road. It is a single lane road and I was walking dogs and a baby down it. The car in question came roaring up behind us, and whilst we are trying to get off the road with the dogs/pram, she tooted twice then drove at us, hitting me whilst going past.

That is what I am most upset about, she is a f***ng lunatic who needs stopping, another couple of inches and I (or my baby or dog or all of us) would have been flying over the bonnet of her car.

Or alleged criminal damage?
Correct that would appear to be the question. Yet the police have not asked me about that?

Rear view mirror - wing mirror of course, perhaps I should have been more specific.

And I have a photo of the bruise! Showed plod when he was here talking to me about it.

I will ask them who I escalate it up to, as others have said, my main concern is this woman will really hurt someone one of these days - I should also have said, the week before she did similar but just missed me as I managed to move a bit faster!

Its generally best to walk on the right side of a road so you can face oncoming traffic.
Single lane road. Cars head in both directions, it has passing points. So I am always facing traffic from one direction........ Though I have also been walking down this lane for 10 years now and only had two problems - this lady and one other old lady a few months ago who hit my dog (and yes, the police didn't give a t**s about that either).

Just ran your scenario past a few Roads Policing friends on our FB page and they've suggested it should have been recorded as an Injury RTC and dealt with as such, combined with her Fail to Stop. The claim of damage confirms you made contact with her car and should be investigated.
Thank you. The officer who attended my house to take a statement said the same thing, and she was interviewed under caution at the station I believe. But I was called today by a different copper who said as she claims against me they are doing nothing further.

I will have to escalate this.

And I haven't even mentioned she should have a dashcam of her hitting me..... Or how I know about that.....

Agreed. Also try being more accurate about what's happened! There is a big difference between the "plod done nuffin" line, and police attended, took a statement, interviewed (?) driver, and decision taken to NFA due to lack of evidence!
Yes, more happened. The next week, she drove past slowly and her husband got out of a vehicle following her and threatened me....... Then he said he had a dashcam of me hitting their car - I said great, the cops will want that then.

I think a dashcam would be great evidence. I also think if they have destroyed it because it shows her hitting me plod should be interested in that too. I also don't believe that a person should get away with such conduct because there is no independent witness. If she'd run me down and I'd been crippled and left in a wheelchair for life, can she just say the same thing? No witness, no problem?

ETA - and I noted the attendance at my house in my post at 20.10 or so....

And Red, I am not sure what she is claiming. I was initially told she was claiming I was walking towards her when I lashed out and scratched her car as she went past. The phone message now just says I "hit" her vehicle.

I also note that I called the police within 1 minute of being hit by the car. She called them to report my "criminal damage" after her Husband had threatened me and after her insurer had contacted her. I am sure that is perfectly normal conduct though and not in any way suspicious.

Did the threat come before or after you reporting the incident to the police.

If the threat was after I'd progress it further - If not I'd chalk it down to experience.
Threat was after. Incident was reported to police within one minute of being hit by car, threat was about a week later. Police were informed about threat as well, along with the fact they have a dashcam.

If you choose to live in such places, you should be prepared to make a bit of effort to keep your young 'uns safe.
I've managed to walk this road for about 10 years now. What happens is people slow down and you get out of the way and they say thanks. This is what I consider a reasonable standard of driving.

The halfwit who hit me however does not fall into that category. She needs removing from the roads or given such a scare by plod and the courts that she doesn't continue to drive like a moron. That is what I mean to achieve, because next time she might do some real damage to me or someone else.

And there are loads of people who walk up and down this road daily......

Yes, not impressed with police at all.

What really annoys me is that "speed kills" and there are (weekly) police vans parked up 300 yards from where I was hit. Do 35mph and you are prosecuted etc yet actually hit someone, f**k all happens. Where is the logic ?!?!

I will however be pursuing this further with my MP and the police.
