So last night I was heading up to Darlington on the A168 which is a dual carriageway. Weather wasn't great to be honest and it was just about getting dark, the road was fairly quiet.

Anyway, I was keeping pace with a Q5 for about 5/6 miles driven by a single male in plain clothes. He overtook me at one point doing at least 90+ and didn't even look at me when I glanced briefly to my right.

A couple of a miles later I was in the outside lane, he was on the inside about 15 metres ahead with a lorry fast approaching. Due to the conditions, distance and speed I decided it was safer to just put my foot down a bit and go past him so he could pull in behind me and get passed the lorry also. I may have been doing 110mph+ for this brief moment.

I looked in my rear view to my absolute dismay, he had two flashing blue lights in his grill :O :O !!!! My heart sank!!

I pulled into the inside lane and slowed down expecting to be pulled over, the unmarked car stayed behind me, lights flashing until I'd slowed down then pulled back out overtook me and just continued down the road at some pace. He was probably behind me for 5-10 seconds maybe... No signal for me to pull over or anything, he just disappeared off into the distance. I pulled off at the next available junction in anticipation of him being there waiting for me but he wasn't.

En route to my final destination, I passed several marked police vehicles, none of which pulled me over or even looked twice at me. My car isn't exactly inconspicuous either.

I'm absolutely cr*pping myself here frown

Cheers,

That is what I was thinking, he looked like he meant business and he had much bigger fish to fry than me. Like I said, I was with him for a fair few miles and had to let him go past me at one point doing 85 I would say, he didn't put his lights on then or even look at me when he overtook.

The court would class it as dangerous driving, I'm absolutely aware of that and by the letter of the law it was I guess. Not trying to make excuses but I'm hoping he appreciated that I increased speed to get passed him so he could tuck in behind me.

I'm hoping it was just a warning to tell me to slow down and stop being a daft bugger!

Still though, going to be a nervous couple of weeks. I've only just got my first RS as well frownfrown

A168 isn't a dual carriageway and doesn't go to Darlington.
Yeah, could have been the A19 and yeah I made a bad choice in my choice of route

So it's dark, the weathers crap and you thought the safest option was to do 110mph+ rather than ease off and give him a flash so he could overtake the lorry?

Sounds like you've been a lucky boy but have a word with yourself FFS.

Absolutely, a very, very poor decision!! I just hope I'm lucky enough to learn from it! It was incredibly stupid...

I appreciate the replies, all.

Absolutely, a lesson well and truly learnt frown

I will update this in a few weeks if anything drops through my door or if it doesn't as I'm hoping will be the case.

Enjoy the bank holiday!!

Having lived near the A19 for twenty odd years and seen innumerable accidents and near misses I do hope a lesson has been learned . To those unfamiliar with the road , it has lots of crossings , poorly sighted bends and farm traffic , especially at this time of year. I can think of about 2 miles between Thirsk and Middlesbrough whee in light traffic you might be safe to do 110mph. In daylight . In the dry.Mind you , OP was doing 30 odd mph less than the idiot in an Evo was recently ....
I agree, it really isn't a great road!! Very silly of me... I know it littered with unmarked and mobile police cameras as well. It was a pure moment of madness.

Why are people getting so worked up? It's not like the event the OP posted actually happened. wink
Exactly, this is just a fictional story. I was just wondering what would happen. In fact, I think I dreamt it. I ate cheese pretty late on.

Am I the only one wondering why you would post your speed and illegal driving openly on a forum for all to see?
If you look at the words I've used, I'm not incriminating myself. I may have does not mean I did. I may have been going 69mph actually, I can't remember
