Overtook an unmarked Police car this morning, and he followed me discretely for about 4 miles.....before putting on the blue illuminations.

Stopped for a chat, and put my hands up to being slightly over the limit, no point in not, and we had a long civilized discussion about it.

He gave my the NIP and I accepted it with good grace, and we parted on a handshake. However, when I got home, I notice he's written the index of the Bike wrong (by one letter).

Chances of contesting it successfully ?

Zero.
One can but ask. The last NIP I had (Camera Van) had me on the correct road, but the wrong section of it, i.e. between the wrong villages, and I was advised on my Speed Awareness Course that I should have contested it as the evidence offered was incorrect.

Move house quickly and don't leave forwarding address.
For £100 and 3 points, seems a bit over the top. Just MTFU and take it.

Invitation to an afternoon tea-dance received in the post this morning, £95, no tea, no biscuits, but better than £100 and 3 points. For overtaking an unmarked traffic car, I'd say that more than fair !
