Stopped On Motorway - No Paperwork/Ticket Given

I was stopped for speeding on a motorway just over a month ago, wasnt shown any evidence other than the speed gun and calibration date & was sent on my way after being read my right etc but without any paperwork/ticket etc - is that the norm these days? When stopped for the same years ago I was shown video evidence and given a written ticket on the spot.
