Hi

Does anyone know how it is determined precisely where the bus stop paint markings on a road are designated? i.e. does the local authority have a particular position where it had agreement (under whatever stature or whatever) to put it? I suspect there are no fixed points relating to it, (even though we all have to abide by strict planning laws!)

Reason I ask is because I have a very busy bus stop outside my flat. I have noticed that over the last 10 or 12 years the forward line of the bus stop has crept forward so now it half-overlaps my property whereas it didn't originally. I have googled but all the info is about the size of the lettering etc I can't see anything about the strict position of the markings. It's annoying as the incredible noise of the fkers means I would like to have it pushed back to where it was originally to give me a modicum of relief.

Fancy some knowledge before I get into it with the ever-unhelpful borough (Brent).

cheers if anyone knows anything.

biggrin True. But nevertheless it would help a bit. The buses thing and road layout is mental as befitting local councils anyway, as the one opposite creates untold traffic.

Anyway I would of thought there must be a principle that applies. Otherwise they could simply move it wherever they want without any kind of rules which would be a bit odd.

Anyway now I've had a bit more of a look I've seen why they've done it - it was to add a (completely unnecessary) KEEP CLEAR on the entrance to a gated estate further up. To keep the bus cage as whatever the minimum is (12m or something) they've moved it forward. The bus stop flag has remained in the same place. I'm only writing all this as someone in the future may be searching for the same topic.

I realise the council won't move it back, but I may have a go. In fact I may investigate how one can get a bus stop moved altogether! It really needs a proper road redesign (for other reasons not shown here) but obviously that would entail some logic on behalf of the highways department which does not exist.

Now

Then

KEEP CLEAR that's been added shunting the bus stop cage forward.

The creeping bus stop markings may mean there is no longer any room to park?
yes I agree that in some cases that could occur which would upset the resident being affected. In my case though that doesn't apply as there is no parking allowed anyway.

Believe me buses, bus companies, drivers and passengers are all a nightmare! 50 years in the future when buses are silent electric or whatever will be a dream.
