So I drove past a brand spanking new mobile speed camera today.

Fortunately I'm very good speed wise when I'm not 'making progress' so it was a non-issue for myself. However I did notice that this van was not in fact an offical police vehicle.

As it turns out it is just another one of the increasing ammount of privately contracted mobile speed units.

So, my mind goes a'wanderin' about the legal and shady/un-sporting aspects of these things.

Now I have seen a video on youtube of a guy confronting one of these private units where once confronted the van promtly drives off after giving the guy a letter which explains that the company had been given permission by the police to help enforce traffic laws.

However, the interesting thing is that as these units are private ventures, they are not staffed by police personel.

So my question is:
What would stop someone from setting up a tripod a few metres away from one of these vehicles with jamming equipment to jam the radar/lidar system of the private mobile unit?

As there are no police present in the vehicle surely this would not be obstruction of justice or wasting police time?

Also, as the equipment is not mounted to a vehicle and not used indiscriminately, surely the police themselves could not come after you for that. As I know people have been jailed in the past for having jammer systems mounted to their vehicle.

Just a thought, what do you guys think about the subject/idea?
