Hi all just got a letter, have pleaded guilty and will be waiting to here back for a court date.

Any advice for me? Aside from dress smart and be apologetic?

Do the points start from date of offense or from the court date?

Does anyone have any advice? Would it be better in the long term to hire a solicitor or shall I just wing it and be apologetic?

62 in a 30 means indicated 65+ - how the hell were you going that fast in a 30 zone? nuts

Get a solicitor - by any means - as you could be looking at losing your licence.
It was on a dual carriageway at 16.54pm, no traffic at all and no pedestrians at all.

It was near Eltham flyover if anyone knows this place in se london

if you are skint it might be best not to get a solicitor. if you expect to lose your licence for a few months then take it on the chin, a solicitor might help but the odds are stacked against you.
I'm a bus driver so it's 10 times worse if I get disqualified, won't be able to work for any company for years will have to completely change jobs to something else

I'm praying I don't lose it

You got to 65+ indicated in the 100m after leaving Well Hall roundabout to that carefully cherry-picked low-traffic image?

You do appear to be a bit laissez-faire over your licence for somebody whose job depends on it, don'cha?

There was hardly.any traffic just a car in the far distance

As above. I've been at court and seen a solicitor save a taxi driver from losing his licence. It's a no-brainer, but it won't be cheap.
When you say not cheap are we talking...??

Do you have dependants? If so plead hardship to them if you get banned as you'll lose your job. Letter from employer on having a good track record might help.
I have a boy on the way due on March 27th, I assume the court date will be before this, hopefully they take that into consideration

Thanks, seems my phone doesn't always use autocorrect when intended. Glad we cleared that one up.

Sorry to be so harsh but you have nobody else to blame but yourself.

If I was a magistrate and you said:-

"Please don't ban me, as I could lose my job"

I would reply:-

"You should have thought about that before you broke the speed limit by 100%"

I can't really see what a solicitor could say that you couldn't say yourself, but maybe I'm wrong.

On a different tack, if the worst came to the worst, could your company find you some office or shed work for the duration of any ban you may receive?

Good luck anyway.
I appreciate your honesty and agree, I take full responsibility for what I've done. I get what you mean by a solicitor not being able to do or say anything I couldn't, but I feel like on my situation I can't take that chance.

Maybe any ban (If you do get one) might only be a couple of weeks or so, unlike DD where it is an automatic 12 months.

Still, we are putting the cart before the horse here.

If it was me, I would represent myself and try to put on an acting display Laurence Olivier would be proud of.
Problem is I still need a license to drive a bus, unless I don't tell them. But I'm sure once they do their annual delay license check it will flag up as I had been banned and they'll question me.

I'm looking to do things the right way here. It's also very difficult to get the annual leave as they're preset, only able to swap with other drivers.

A few points I'd like to mention, I feared the worst for the outcome of this thread based on the time I've spent browsing these forums, I'm not suprised at half of the responses.

1. I wasn't driving the bus whilst speeding, and I'm not Sandra Bullock.

2. No ketchup jokes please

3. I do take full responsibilty for what I've done, I was almost in tears the other night. This isn't a case of being sorry for being caught, I genuinely feel stupid and remorseful.

4. I have contacted AGTLaw, have had a small exchange of e-mails and have taken his short term advice to write a mitigating letter.

EDIT: I don't see how me posting about whether or not the A2 average speed cameras where active or not is relevant? Wouldn't you want to know or be curious if you'd gone through at 60 instead of 50. Or am I a dullard for that too.

Thanks for any support given, to those that want to criticize, go forth and continue.

I will keep this thread updated as things progress, wish me luck.

I'd suggest this too, find your best Union Rep and get the low down on what you can and cant have on your licence and still keep your job. I know a DD would mean never working for the majority of the big companies again but a short term ban might not be so bad. I'm sure if you're well thought of at work they'll not want to lose you, used up some holiday, lieu days and maybe a few unpaid?

You know you've been stupid, I dont know what the point of carrying on slating you is tbh, I suspect IF you keep your DL you'll not be doing much speeding again.

Keep us updated.
I will do this first thing on Monday, even if I don't vet banned I may still not be able to drive with a certain amount of points! Thanks for support

No, I didn't want to waste court time. Just thought being upfront and honest from the get go was the best course of action
