Spotted over on Honest John, courtesy of Dwight Van Driver, DVD, previous of this parish, think he, like me, got fed up of the anti police sentiments.

The Road Traffic Offenders (Additional Offences) Order 2017

Coming into force

5th April 2017

This Order amends section 20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 which allows records from prescribed devices, such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, to be used as evidence in proceedings for certain offences.

This Order adds two offences to the list of offences to which section 20 applies—

(a) driving on the hard shoulder of a motorway contrary to regulation 9 of the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 (S.I. 1982/1163) which is an offence under section17(4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (c.27); and

(b) failing to comply with an indication given by a light signal not to enter, or proceed in, a traffic lane which is an offence under section 36(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (c.52).

Daughter of the speed camera then.

Personally I don't necessarily have too much of an issue, except for the usual caveat that electronic enforcement can only see the instant of a situation, whereas often the important part is how did the individual get themselves into that situation.

But essentially I got sick of seeing Friday nights on the M40, when they were setting up roadworks and red X flashing over lanes 2, 3 etc, complete retards jamming through at 3 figure speeds in order to barge over at the last possible second having passed at least 3 sets of lane closure signs. Cocks deserving of a good nicking.

knowing that I would have to wait until each and every one of those s had pushed into the queue ahead of me before I would be able to progress the odd car length made me seeth!
It's only one car length. Why get angry? Once you're all back upto 70 mph, how long is that in seconds? #zen
I was there for over half an hour. More cars (and lorries!!!) came past me than I estimated were already in front of me. Had no-one been pushing in, the queue would have been moving continuously. Half a mile, even at, say 15 mph, would have taken me only eight minutes. I am angry because the ignorant bds are getting away with flagrant abuse of the law, the law which should have given each of them a £100 fine and 3 points on their licence.

Law-abiding drivers of the vehicles in the ever-lengthening queue behind me would have been delayed well in excess of half an hour.

This is why I am angry.

O.K.?
Whilst in one sense, let 30 vehicles in front, and once you are out the other side, all at two seconds gap, then theoretically you are 30 * 2 seconds, or a minute behind where you were.
The point though was in my post, in my experience those bds jamming through the red X signs , at speeds which are actually illegal even on a clear and empty motorway in good visibility, were doing it in the dark, with lots of other traffic about and completely ignoring signs saying workers in carriageway. 100pounds and 3 points wasn't enough in those circumstances. Any careful and prudent driver can see in such circumstances that is driving so far below the required standard as to be dangerous.

I didn't get annoyed, as being annoyed and behind the wheel isn't a good mix. Doesn't stop me thinking the worst cases at least should have a spell on the bus.

two late night trips from Dover last year, the m25 had 3 closed lanes for quite a few miles, gantry enforced. In total it took approx. 2 hours to get through, however, this was mainly due to closed lanes being used mile upon mile by selfish drivers pushing in. Funnily enough on a return trip this week there were 3 lanes closed, again adding upwards of 30 minutes (this time they closed the lanes close to the cones seems they learnt their lesson) and again queue pushers. Its a frustration, I don't get angry. I sometimes do act petty though. I am actually a driver that lets people in to lane or out of junctions as I don't see it as adding time to my trip but saving potentially minutes for them. I believe in good manners, but if someone is trying to filter in after going down a closed lane they will find it hard to impossible to push in. I don't care that's petty as I see that act as less selfish than theirs.
Also bear in mind that before they get to the red X they will have passed several sets of wicket signs showing lanes closed ahead, arrows suggesting they should move to the lane to their left or right, so it shouldn't exactly be a surprise.

Having also experienced one of those M25 fiascos, what would it do to the national finances if they started nicking everyone for the offence? Folks accuse speed cameras of only being about the money, this one could be exactly that. Hands in PH membership.
