Engineer report - how to get?

I've had some work done recently on a motorcycle and the wiring in particular is very suspect, to the point that I'd like to point out the faults to the person who has done it. How would I go about gettting a report on the work done?
It's not a claim thing yet as I'd rather get the mechanic to understand what they've done wrong so they don't do it to someone else, so I'd rather purchase a report direct rather than go through a solicitor. Is it just a question of finding a local garage or are there specialists that would provide a more appropriate report?
