NIP addressed to someone else

Hello all,

Over the weekend we received a letter (which looked like a NIP) addressed to someone I don't know. I simply marked it 'return to sender, not at this address' and posted it back. Is there anything else that I could/should do ? I wonder if someone has registered their car at my address but I've never received anything from the DVLA to indicate this (i.e. no log book or road fund licence reminder letters etc). If I receive any subsequent letters, am I within my rights to open the letter if I believe some fraudulent activity is occuring ?

Thanks for that - I didn't realise that I was allowed to open it. Wish I'd posted this thread before posting back the letter - doh!
